My October Drawings

I bought a scrap of suede matboard which I used for the first two. I really liked this as a surface. The OPs go on very opaque (the matboard is green).

Cersei 2.5x3.5 inches

This is an ATC. I used a tortillon for all the details.

Teacup 5x7 inches

Pears and Milk 6.5x10 inches on UART dark

Before I did this one I read a bunch of the articles on https://www.howtopastel.com (they’re about soft pastels but I think a lot of the same techniques apply). And I tried to follow their advice, such as working on the whole piece simultaneously (not working left to right as I normally do), using an under painting in contrasting colors, and generally trying to make it more colorful than the photo. I’m pleased with this. It’s more colorful and energetic than my usual work.

Hi Maria! Really nice work on everything. I especially love your ATC portrait (I had to look that up since I've never worked on anything so small!). Great job getting all that detail.

Your strawberries are luscious. I really like your strokes in all these paintings.

The tiny portrait is definitely impressive, she's instantly recognisable

Re: My October Drawings

Great job! I especially like the teacup with the strawberries - just lovely! And very realistic-looking. Portraits are complicated if they are done with OPs and in small format. But you did great!

Re: My October Drawings

Thanks for all your comments! I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to do a small portrait with OP but the tortillon worked really well.

Re: My October Drawings

They are all pretty special with your varied styles and sizes!

My favorite is the pretty teacup with the strawberries. Love the cup pattern and gold rims!

Re: My October Drawings

I like the energy of these, Maria. The strawberries and teacup especially look very finished but also loose. (I'm envious.)
