Cavorting

oil on hardboard, 16x20
This is a painting I work on from time to time. Once I get the water the way I want it, I will work some more on the figures. I would appreciate comments, particularly on the scale of the figures. Too small, too large?

Can't help you with the figures, but I like the painting - Your water is really looking good and I like the movement you have generated in the setting - Nice work -

Re: Cavorting

I like it. Compositionally, I think it would be improved with an additional figure, probably between the left two. It may work to have three instead, by taking out the far left one, but that may throw the balance off too much.

Re: Cavorting

The figures set the scale and it works for me. I really like the playfulness of the painting. The off blue sky, the soft edges and the muted shadows work well together bringing an atmosphere to the painting. Gary

Re: Cavorting

Thanks for the comments. Gary, you are seeing what I was trying to convey, the playfulness in the face of some pretty energetic waves. I would like to take this theme somewhere, but no ideas at present.

Re: Cavorting

CK, I think you are right, need a little more definition in the water. I will try to do that.
