software for simple line drawing

Hi
I draw small cartoon figures. Very simple designs, single lines no colour. I use them then for printmaking.

I'd like to be able to scan them and edit digitally.

So far I've used wacom with artrage software, but it's all so complicated!

What I'd like to do is quite simple. Say I draw a cat, I would like to for instance be able to pull it's tail to make it longer, or stretch the picture or copy it's head rotate then paste back on.

Hope that made some sense.

Years ago I used to work with glass and used software called glass eye which I actually carried on using for some simple line designs - unfortunately the floppy stopped working and I didn't want to pay again... but it did allow me to stretch lines etc which I am missing.

Any suggestions welcomed. Thanks

I really don't have any suggestions, except that if you put separate body parts on different layers it would be easier to stretch or rotate. I personally like ArtRage, but photoshop, and anything that gives you selections should work. There is also the mesh layers in photoshop, but that too is very complicated.
If you could scan in the drawings and then make them into vectors, that would work, but again, I think I'm suggesting more complicated solutions.
Sorry I can be more help.

Re: software for simple line drawing

Thanks for your help Elaine. I like Artrage too, I have the free version that came with my Wacom. I found I couldn't 'copy and paste' body parts (sounds gruesome! ). I thought it was because I didn't have the full version. I also couldn't work out how to 'stretch'. I do however know about layering.

Do you have the full version?

I should have added that for doing the line art with the stablized lines clipstudio (formally manga studio) is perfect for that I can post some links of going from sketch to line art if you like

I wonder if some open-source (and free) software like inkscape might be whar you're looking for? Inkscape is vector-based, which might be a little different, but for line art it might be just the thing
