I am drawn to doing still life again after many many years… Here is a little watercolour pencil painting on 6″x6″ 140 lb. paper I just did. I’m experimenting with coloured pencils – usually I use acrylic/oils. These are Derwent Inktense – a very interesting medium. I can’t get the detail control yet as I would like with this medium but having fun anyway.

This fruit looks yummy with its red colors against the complementary greens. I use Inktense at times and it does take some experimenting to get used to them.

Detail control will come with practice.

Thanks Kay – do you have any posts as examples?
Thanks Jon – you’re so right – I just need to keep practicing.

nice study Yvonne! The apple is fantastic! Don’t know if you have tried the technique of softening/blending coloured pencil with a bit of solvent and a brush or a Qtip.. but it works great for softening areas.

                good work.

Thank you Michael. No I didn’t know. I’ve just been using it like watercolour (premix first or else grains show up). I would have liked to get those tiny yellow spots in there but everything kept blurring it up. Also with water the colours pop out and change colour. So much to learn.

                BTW your art is awesome!
