Wyeth's paintings will probably outlive the art critic's and art historian's own work. His 'Christina' painting at least, while not to everyone's taste, has entered the collective consciousness - even here in the UK. And that is, I don't think, something that any critic of Wyeth has ever achieved.
He probably isn't that important to the chronology of art history, which is what I think you're talking about. But he occupies his own niche. For me it's the pictures where man is present by his absence that Wyeth excels.

I'm so sad to learn today that Mr. Wyeth has left us. He is my favorite artist, and was one of my Mom's favorites as well. May his family receive all the comfort and love they wish and need at this time of change. And may you rest in art and happy activity wherever you are now Mr. Wyeth.
