White House Road

Finally finished? (of course not, I already see things I don't like) with this one. My most photo real painting to date. Now I understand the appeal of doing abstract impressionism.

oil 20x13 inches

Re: White House Road

John - Not your usual style but impressive nevertheless. A simple statement with the distant road & farm buildings making subtle, yet effective areas of interest.
The tree on the left is a nice inclusion, breaking the horizon & keeping attention on the scene - Nice Work !

Michael.

Re: White House Road

John....
I really like this with such a great use of varied greens and love the flow to the composition including that excellent sky.
Great piece and yes you have captured a very realistic feel to this.

Love this carefully modulated symphony of greens! Very well done (and no easy job!). Your temperatures are superb!

Re: White House Road

There's really good depth in this and a pleasant feel of old master landscape.

Re: White House Road

Beautiful job with this one John! It looks like you could walk right into the scene and like the others have said, the depth is exceptional....

Re: White House Road

The realism is very well done. Like the detail, varied greens and shadow, and composition with the glimpse of the road.

Re: White House Road

Thanks a lot guys. Appreciate it.

But I realize now that the image above is a bit off. A little blurry and too yellow dull and dark. My Cannon zoom gee-wiz-do-everything-for-cheap camera can't even autofocus. I'm about to give up on it. My Samsung phone does a better job, but amps everything up and makes things too yellow. So I finally figured out the simplest thing in PS. How to tone down a cetain color. The image below is a little closer. Please pardon my fumbling.

I think photographing oils is harder than watercolor. The titanium white just beams out. The clouds look much more contrasty in the photo for that reason I think. Plus of course the titanium white is still wet.

Thanks again fellow artists. Helps keep me going.
