"Afternoon"

Every so often I step outside my "box", or "comfort zone", and paint in a style that is different for me, and this is one of those paintings.

I call this, "Afternoon". It is an oil painting on a RayMar Canvas Panel. For this I used a palette knife almost exclusively. This is not a "one-shot", alla prima effort--it represents many layers that were allowed to dry before applying the next.

If one has excess paint that they wish to use up, this is the project for you!

Re: "Afternoon"

I like the composition - the man and the buildings on the right work well. Yellow building on the left is charming but not as well painted.

Re: "Afternoon"

Great painting and hopefully your out of paint now so you can go shopping for more.

All of my paintings use a boatload of paint as I haven't learned to paint thinly yet.

Re: "Afternoon"

Thanks Everyone, for your comments! AllisonR, I tend to agree with you regarding the quality of the yellow building on the left.

Hah...Thanks! I have so many paints that I can use up, I will not need to buy new paints for a long time. Seems as though I'm always "inheriting" paints from someone who's just quit painting, so I always have many paints on hand.

Oh, there are a few "staple items" such as White, Ivory Black, Ultramarine Blue, and Burnt Umber that I actually do have to purchase from time to time, but I have enough Burnt Sienna, and Permanent Green to last me a lifetime!
