This is true the cakes are gone but I am sure that most of thousands of cakes (Between 33,000 and 49,000 cakes, by mathematical calculations) I have made have had their pictures taken and are in scrapbooks or online in places like Facebook.
Being a Cake Decorator you get to be part of so many of the happy events in peoples lives, cakes are for good times and very seldom sad (with a few heartbreaking exceptions).
Also every stage of their lives from the Gender Reveal Party ( we have been handed a sealed envelope from the Doctor to make the cake, so we know the sex of the baby even before the parents do). Baby Showers, the First Birthday party, all the other birthdays up to and beyond the Happy 100th Birthday (I've gotten to write that 7 times so far, I like that). Anniversaries, Graduations, Retirements, and well wishes for those moving on to new jobs or new locations.
Last but not least The Wedding Cakes! I was so nervous making my first two tier Wedding cake, but now I've make hundreds of them, and dozens of three tier cakes, but no 5 tier cake, this is my last milestone! We are in a rural area and they mostly get 2 or 3 tiers then cupcakes or other cakes to fill out the servings.
I'm the cake decorator that gets the weird, odd or unusual orders. The other girls save them for me and say will you do this one?
Lately I've been doing several reproduction cakes. The family comes in with a photo from the scrapbook. They want a Wedding Cake like the one in the photo for their parents 50th Wedding Anniversary. I've done several of these, I like them, I think of a time 50 years from now, some future Cake Decorator will receive a photo of a Wedding Cake I made and be asked to make one just like it. This makes me smile.
