Use to denote nudity/mature subject matter Long Time, No Ink

I have not posted for about 6 months (at least it feels like that!! )

Portraits of Hollywood ladies-- around 2.5-3hr each, 2B pencil on white paper, 11x15

-- Studies from Vanderpoel's..... around 20min each, 2B & 4B on white paper, 11x15

- And lastly my favorites.... Ink on newsprint big sheets (can't remember actual size)... first one was 10min, second 45min. Using only straight lines with ruler and Indian ink ...both from life

thanks for looking...

Big change in your skills since I last saw your work, well done. Andrew Loomis and Norman Rockwell used frontal lighting usually the lighting a photographer uses is not what traditional artists use in making their illusion of form. Studying artists like Vanderpoel, Sargent and Ingres will give you better images than flash photos of Hollywood gals.

You get the structural relationships now work on the tonal relationships the Vanderpoel copies are far superior than the Hollywood copies because he is using light and shadow as an artist should to reveal the form remember photographers need and use a different light than traditional artists; check out Rembrandt and his mates.

Cesar, I agree with Bill, design is key in examining the main shapes, simplifying and capturing what is important. In sequence these get stronger. The ink life ones are strongest, well done because it is so unforgiving.

carol- thanks very much for your encouragement!

nathan- thanks for noticing this. I would say that ink's lack of forgiveness have made me a bit less fearful and more free towards life drawing.

Hey Cesar, you have been a busy bee. The bevy of beauties with the challenging lighting are a pleasure to see. I too admire your work on the necks, a difficult body part to master, but you have caught the elegant forms nicely. The ink work is daring and I admire that too. I see much progress, let us see more.
