Culleton's Gap Paint-Out
A group paint-out yesterday at the beautiful seaside location of Raven's Point a few miles North of Wexford town. Here one has the opportunity of painting the beach, sand dunes or the adjacent forest. We were all surprised to find so many people out walking there on a cold Sunday morning - it was nearly as busy as it would be in mid-summer. It was a beautiful clear, sunny morning, but quite cold. After a frosty start, it eventually got up to about 7-8C (c 45F).
Most of us opted for the forest, even though it felt colder in there. Anyway, I just went for the obvious, painting people heading off walking from Culleton's Gap towards Raven's Point. But, sometimes, the obvious can be the best painting subject.
Morning Walk, Culleton's Gap
(12" x 10" Oil on Board)
As usual, I have a photo of the scene on my blog for anyone who wants a look.

All I had to do was glimpse your painting, and I felt -- better, just like that. I don't know why, maybe it's the colour. Or you have some magic! Probably. Well I am leaving a lot of room for a joke, but seriously, you have a way to paint a happy painting and I just want to say I appreciate it.

I love the dreamy quality you express in your paintings. I would love to step into your painting and walk with the people for a while! Beautiful!

Thanks Squeaky. And, why not visit Ireland some day - only a six hour flight and a couple of hundred dollars if you're flexible. I still recall flying to LA about five years ago and my return ticket cost about $700 dollars. I got chatting to an American guy on my way back and his return ticket only cost him $149! So, if you're flexible, play the low cost airlines at their own game and the world becomes very small!
Check out www.artintheopen.org, for Ireland's premier plein air festival and one of the largest in Europe.

Michael, You don't know how much I would love to see Ireland. I wouldn't want to come by myself but someday I just might show up anyway! I've talked to people that have been there and it sounds like a painter's paradise.

It might be a good idea to join the "Yanks" Group on the Irish plein air website ( www.pleineire.ning.com) - it's free. They've only a handful of members at the moment, but it will most certainly grow larger. Down the road I can see a strong possibility of a group visit to Ireland for our plein air festival.
Take care,
Michael
