Re: POD POLL: Zazzle, RedBubble, CafePress or ???

I've been on Fine Art America for years and haven't sold a thing there. I refuse to upgrade to add more images until I get the money in sales to pay for the upgrade. Cafe Press was just too hard to manipulate. I like Society 6 a lot, but am getting most of my results with Zazzle.

I used to say good things about RedBubble, but recent changes there have been a hot mess. I no longer can recommend it!

You won't get any sales on FAA without promoting your images heavily, and the more you have the better your chances, 25 just isn't enough. At $30/year it's far cheaper than most places for the features you get. Also consider this, since you set your own markups with FAA your income from one sale on FAA can easily equal what you get from many sales on Zazzle.

I've made more money through Zazzle than anywhere online to date. You can earn more on bulk items and that's what you aim to promote, at least that's my way of doing it.

Re: POD POLL: Zazzle, RedBubble, CafePress or ???

If you're just joining a POD I think you'd have an easier time on RB than long time members. I disabled all my product options when the last format changes required constant editing. For months now I've been seeing others complain, though in a dwindling amount, that this is still happening. Mostly a problem if you have hundreds or thousands of images there that require attention. I'm glad I'm sitting it out and might just decide to be done with PODs. I can still buy my stuff on private view, and do sometimes. CURIOUS...do other PODs have these format changes that throw everything into chaos, too?

Re: POD POLL: Zazzle, RedBubble, CafePress or ???

Great thread! I've been using Zazzle since the early 90's and a lot has changed since then. Not many choices for sellers, anymore, in terms of how your shop appears to buyers. That used to be the big "thing" - the personal look of your shop. Now it's all pretty sterile looking and everybody's shop looks the same.

If you have something that sells more than half a dozen times it will, more than likely continue to sell and ignore the changes as time passes. I have one design that sells regularly on a variety of products and it has sold multiple copies worldwide. I wish someone would just buy a license for the image and sell products in brick and mortar stores. But, I'm happy with what I make there - about enough to buy a box of pastels or some tubes of paint.

Maybe next I'll try some of my painted art and see what happens.

R/Mike

Every POD site I've ever been part of operates exactly like that. I'm on RedBubble, Zazzle, and Fine Art America, and am currently doing the Chaos Shuffle with all of them!

Truly -- it never ends.

Thanks for this! Sorry I didn't see it til today. I have not had the best computer/internet access for awhile, and this was one of the sites I just couldn't manage well on the phone so I didn't visit it for awhile.

I use Fine Art America. I am very happy with the quality and you can set the profit margin.

They offer Fine art prints, canvas prints greeting cards and are also starting to add shirts and other decor.

I also have a Zazzle store and a CafePress store for mugs and other merchandise.

I have had no complaints with the Zazzle store and they offer a referral bonus that is nice.

I had on complaint on CafePress about shipping problems. It was resolved and the customer was happy in the end. Other than that one complaint I have heard good feedback.

I think I'm just done with all POD sites! They all do seem to be the same now, or plan to be. I don't have time to hunt down every positive thing I ever said about the one I used the most and retract it, but wish I could! If you want to read what members are saying about changes on Redbubble, this is the forum on site updates: http://www.redbubble.com/groups/redbubble/forums/16327

Re: POD POLL: Zazzle, RedBubble, CafePress or ???

I'm sorry to hear that, Cindy. PODs are a big part of my overall income. It's not always easy to keep up with their never-ending changes in direction, but they're still a great option for selling art online.

I'm actually adding Society 6 to my online stable, this week. I'll be using them in a limited capacity, but hope they'll become one more viable income stream for me.

Re: POD POLL: Zazzle, RedBubble, CafePress or ???

EyeSpy, I'm glad I wasn't earning a substantial amount of money there, so the decision to break away from it wasn't a hard one, when the format changes would've greatly increased the amount of time I had to spend on it, for no more money than before. I mostly sell originals. Selling the reprints and products was a nice way to get paid for what amounted to promotional material. I'm looking into local places to get reprints, etc, if I really want to. Also, I still have numerous high res images on private view and can buy them to keep or resell, it's just kind of pointless to be on a POD and have to handle resales personally. I'd rather do it locally in that case. It did teach me a lot, and I made some friends, etc, so I don't regret having been on RB, it's just time to go.

Eyespy, how can you link your own website to the POD site, fine art, society6 or Z? I have seen some artists websites where the cart goes directly to society 6 and it seems that your FA page leads to your website??
I am new to this and appreciate all your advices

Oh, dear! Just noticed this query after many months.

I don't have a shopping cart on my www.art166.net site. I simply create individual links back to their relevant pages. Right now, all my links lead back to FineArtAmerica for purchasing and print fulfillment. But, I'm about to include onther online vendors, too, and to set up a page offering custom goods from non-print on demand sites.

Re: POD POLL: Zazzle, RedBubble, CafePress or ???

I find Fine Art America to be a great site. I guess the one gripe I have is that the search in it skews much too heavily towards the top sellers. Maybe one of these days I will start posting a few more images and see if I can get the sales moving
