Red fox kits @ den. Sorry for the focus issues. I was a good distance away, using a 70-200mm lens. I didn't want to cause the parents to uproot the family by getting too close.

Beautiful photographs. Thank you for saying they could be used as reference material. I would love to try to paint one of them. MCT

Re: Wildlife Mammals Photo Library

This is a very interesting composition - two wolves in shades of gray - and I wonder if it's legal & ethical to use it as a reference if the source is mentioned:

Hi Heikki

It's not legal and ethical to use it and quote source, you need to ask permission. I recently asked the photographer from National Geographic to use one of her pics- provided I don't sell the painting and I reference her, and she said "yes". Most photographers are flattered. Hope this helps
cheers
Donna

Re: Wildlife Mammals Photo Library

An interesting question has been posted about copywrite;
....This is a very interesting composition - two wolves in shades of gray - and I wonder if it's legal & ethical to use it as a reference if the source is mentioned:....

Copywrite is a very deep and involved subject with many nuances of degrees of law attached to it.

Basically, if photos have been posted here in WC RIL photographers have given their permission to use their photos to paint from - they have NOT however given their permission to use the actual photos themselves for any other reason. (for example you can't post their actual photos in a facebook page and say they are yours etc)
So that means in any area i.e. National Geographic, Magazines, Newspapers, books etc you cannot use the photos without the photographers permission. Because the photographer, has the copywrite to that photo.
