One issue that hasn't been brought up is this. If you register your original work, you don't have to go to court. That's the biggest attraction in registering paintings. But the money rewards are limited. I don't have the copyright law book I saw this in, so not entirely sure. Just passing it along as something to look into.
Another issue is: What if there is some artist estate that retains copyright? So the rule that if the artist has been deceased for over 70 years their stuff is public domain, might not apply?
