I got started on a selfie last nights. I ran out of paint and wanted food, so I had to put it on the bench until tomorrow or so.
My head wasnt supposed to be so head-on, but more canted about 15 degrees left. Hope to alter that a little bit when I get to the hands, etc.
Thanks for stopping by–stay warm.

www.jonbradley.artDecember 11, 2019 at 4:03 am #917518Nice big painting, lots of room to work, good thinking because trying to fit small details onto a small painting is tough. I had to do just that recently, 5/0 round, magnifying glass, and a support for my arm to rest on so I would end up wrecking some very important areas… not anxious to repeat that, but still have two more highly detailed little areas yet to finish on the painting, ugh.
Looking forward to seeing your progress. Thanks for sharing!

Well, you can do a head life size n(or nearly so) on a small panel or canvas. I mean, the human head is only around eight or nine inches tall.
Most portraits are largely portrayals of clothing. That’s really the most impressive thing about the portraits we see in museums, isn’t it? All of that sumptuous, accurately-rendered fabric and fur and whatnot.
The face is Mr. Bradley’s selfie is expertly done. Now he just has to wow us with the surroundings.
December 11, 2019 at 4:52 am #917522Very nice start Jon. Looking forward to seeing the finish. Is that the block in for a golf club driver in your left hand?

Success is never found. Failure never fatal. Courage is the only thing.

Yeah, man, I had made that mistake a couple times before and it’s no fun.
I try to keep enough room for the potential frame rabbet and about an 1/8 of the overall width on the given vertical or horizontal before any variety bits.

Thanks, Bob. I can’t tag a golf ball to save my life, so unfortunately not (lol).
There will be a lot of focus on the hands, however I plan on holding a brush and a palette knife loosely at slightly different heights.
Bill, Ron, and Skye, thanks, guys (and everybody). I should have another update in a day or so. I also have a paint-night and a promo for it to do, but we’ll get it done.

It’s shaping up, and the WIP updates are much appreciated:::
February 6, 2020 at 7:48 pm #917528Its been a rocky new year, but ive been steadily trying to get time in on this.
I’ve had to change the BG scheme due to a relocation. I liked the previous, lighter setup, but at my office i could only get similar lighting in dark. I was worried itd be too “weighted”.
The good news is, i’ll be able to plug in some sybolic shadow bits & have better focus on my palette i’ll pop in somewhere.
Thanks for the support, guys. It means a ton.
