scratchboard anglerfish

Here is a fish inspired by my trip to the Monterey Aquarium this weekend. I didn't see any there, buy I saw a photo of one at the gift shop and remembered how much I like these guys.It lives at the deepest parts of the ocean, and that little dangle-thingy on top of his head glows in the black and acts as a lure to smaller fish. Then the jaw juts forward and snags the fish. It is cool to think how strange the creatures at the bottom of the ocean look-little monsters. If I remember right, this is called an angler fish.

You did a great job on this piece. The Monterey aquarium was always one of my favorite places to vist. I forget what that fish is called. Can you provide that information?

He is very cool.....
But very scary! hehe

I really love the detail you got in this, it is really what I think of when I think of these fish. I have seen some pictures...whew...they can live there and not come here!

Heather,

Very cool ! Wonderful job with the scratchboard and expression of the cuddly little critter. I love that aquarium. I painted jellyfish for three months the last time I went. LOL.

Love to see more.

Hello,

Thank you all so much for your nice comments.I had been away from the computer for a while, so it was a nice surprise to find more responses to my fish.

I have always loved the way these guys looked, pretty creepy. I hope to start another one soon...hopefully something else from the bottom of the ocean.

Thanks!

Heather
