Scratchboard Hall of Fame 2009

Each participant may post ONE of your images selected from all the works you have done in 2009, in this thread!

Pick your favorite, your best, your worst, your breakthrough, your experiment, whatever you want, but just one. You can tell something about it if you like.

Let's keep the thread to our image postings only, this time, so no commenting on each other's work and the thread won't get too unwieldy.

I'll start us off.

I chose this one because it was something very different for me and I really enjoyed doing it. It has won a couple of awards, including coming in 3rd in the Still Life portion of the Best of Wet Canvas competition.

I'm having trouble with the uploader so I'll try the attachment.

Re: Scratchboard Hall of Fame 2009

I completed this board of my granddaughter in 2009. Naturally, it has more meaning to me, than all the rest of the boards that I finished in that year.

This was my first big board 11x14, called "Soul of a Survivor." It is also my most successful board as well. It got me into one local art show, it was accepted for Colorado, then replaced because it was my first big sale (man offered cash on the spot) so it is special to me.

Well, it's a hard choice but I've gone for a fairly minimalist one but I like the contrast in it. It's a little unusual in that there's not a huge amount of work in it and it doesn't have any eyes visible (and eyes are something I enjoy doing) so that makes it an unusual choice. It was a present to my wife who adores Leonard Cohen

I have a few favourites so a hard decision to make but I have chosen "Cooling Off" as it was my first time of doing water and reflections.

Re: Scratchboard Hall of Fame 2009

This would have to be my favourite and my best as it really shows the difference in my scratchart compared to a year ago! However I am starting to feel as if each time I start a new piece I improve a little. Yesterday I was working on the Snow leopard and had realised my technique for fur had changed slightly after working on the tiger(thank god it is not that noticeable though)

It is 8x10 called 'The Dwindling Majestic' (thanks to Susan for the title) I hope this counts most of it was completed in 2009 lol

It was very difficult to narrow it down to just one, but I am going to go with "Tibetan Prayer Wheel". There are so many textures in this one. And, it was the last piece I did in 2009.

I am choosing my pano roping horse, as he was the start of a lot of good things for me- a purchase award (and my first BIG sale ever), people's choice, 3rd place in the Artist Magazine annual contest, published in Southwest Art, connections with two galleries, etc... and this award seemed to launch the rest of my awards for the year!

Re: Scratchboard Hall of Fame 2009

I wish I had a good one to post with a great story behind it, but I don't, so I chose this one. 8x10 lion I entitled "Yawn" and did in 2009.

[That's funny, Sue - as soon as I saw that, I started yawning ...]

one thing for sure, this forum has a LOT of top notch artists in it, far more than have seen in other forums [well, am 'biased' to realism and detail], and it is inspiring to see all the new works that continually come forth...

This is a 16X20 scratchboard and it will be at the Colorado show. Sorry but it came out a bit blurry.

Re: Scratchboard Hall of Fame 2009

This was definately my largest board and took me the longest to complete. If I remember correctly it was 9 x 24.

Re: Scratchboard Hall of Fame 2009

Hmm, it's very hard to decide, as I did several works in 2009 that I was happy with. I think my favorite is still "Pensive". It was my first attempt at a background in scratchboard and also the first time I used airbrush on one of my boards.

Re: Scratchboard Hall of Fame 2009

This was my first attempt at a reflective surface and the biggest scratchboard piece I've completed so far.

I think I'll go with my turtles. My husband took the photo so I think it is kinda neat when we both have a hand in the work. I also liked the color in it.
