Use to denote nudity/mature subject matter Himba Beauty FINISHED

I couldn't resist this beauty from Patrick's collection...thank you so much Patrick for being so generous with your photos and your time!

I sketched most of this rainy day and scanned it into the computer and saw some goofs and corrected them on on the computer. I will print this out and use it to transfer my drawing. I need some input from you people...do you think I got her breast (our left side) matched up okay? Anything thing else that needs addressing?? I'm not too sure about the eyes...I think I got them a bit small? I won't be able to transfer until Sun. night so if you think of anything, let me know, please?

This was done in an 11X14 sketch book so there is a bit of her garment missing off each side...I stitched it so the whole thing from top to bottom shows...it should cover a majority of an 11X14 board.

Lorna everything looks matched up to me, and the eyes don't look too small. I like them. Fabulous sketch!

This will be quite spectacular when done. You're amazing with people.....something I am unable to do and wish I could. It will be fun to watch this portrait come to life.

This is going to be beautiful!! I can't believe we have chosen different versions of this woman, it must be a first! It would be fun to show them together.

Are you done yet?

Re: Himba Beauty WIP

Great sketch to work from. I think your trademark style will work incredibly well on this skin.

She was an incredibly beautiful girl and suspect she was quite young too. I doubt she was 18 but she might have been. Her face was gorgeous and to me she seemed to cross through that look between traditional tribeswoman and glamour model, whereas all the others, though beautiful in their own right, looked like normal women in tribal gear. I think she knew it too, and so did the rest as she was the one who was always standing, thereby looking very impressive (the rest would sit there most of the time working on some crafts) and she was also the negotiator when it came to paying them for photographs. And believe me, she was damn good at negotiating too. I've bartered and gargained successfully all over Africa and I tried hard and thought I'd got a good deal, yet when the other women saw the note I handed over, one woman couldn't stop kissing my hand as if all her Christmases had come at once

Re: Himba Beauty WIP

Lorna, what a great drawing, I haven't seen the original ref so I'm just guessing but her right breast seems to have some fairly straight lines on the lower portion where one might expect a bit more roundness. I'm sure that the photo shows it this way but it just seemed to catch my eye. The eyes look fine, there is a certain depth of expression that the eyes exude and you've captured it very nicely.

Re: Himba Beauty WIP

Hi everyone...sorry to be tardy but I had unexpected company this week and couldn't work as I would have liked. I did enjoy my company though!

Patrick...it's always nice to know the story behind the art....thank you!

Harold...I see what you mean and will correct it when I get there in the scratch. Thank you!

Here's the start...just working on the interesting looking hair...don't think I'm doing it justice...yet. Definitely need some fixin' near that band. This is a scan and the lower part is blurry because it wasn't level (too big)...I'll take photos from now on. Using a scalpel and the fibreglass brush a bit. I will probably put a light ink wash over this and scratch again.

Off to a picnic now but I'll be back to check out the new stuff in the forum (sure has been quiet in here lately) and scratching tonight.

Re: Himba Beauty WIP

Wonderful start!! I am very eager to see you do your magic with this one.

I did a bit of research on the Himba Women and here is what I found. (Someone may have covered this elsewhere, sorry if it a repeat.)

The Himba wear little clothing, but the women are famous for covering themselves with a mixture of butter fat, ochre, and herbs to protect themselves from the sun. The mixture gives their skins a reddish tinge. The mixture symbolizes earth's rich red color and the blood that symbolizes life, and is consistent with the Himba ideal of beauty. Women braid each other's hair and cover it in their ochre mixture (called otjize in their language).
