Re: Monthly Scumble August 2012
The other guy's insurance company called and said to take our car in to see if there was any damage underneath from getting rear ended. Sure enough, there is. About $800 worth. So the Jeep goes in Tuesday and we get a loaner while they fix it for us. Bruce was going to have it looked at any way, but the insurance company beat him to it! Said the frame was a little "tweaked" as they put it, but nothing that requires any major repairs.
Haven't painted anything in a while now. Want to, just don't seem to have the motivation to do it! It's so hot and I have no energy. Hoping we have some Autumn weather, but have a feeling we'll just wake up one morning in September and there will be like a foot of snow! Never know here.
Pastel Society of Colorado is having a paint out next Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. I'm thinking about going and giving "plein aire" a try. Probably have nothing to show for it, but I might go...maybe.....lol!
Nothing much else going on around here.

Re: Monthly Scumble August 2012
I received my 90 pc Rembrandt landscape set last night, & just had the chance to start working with them this afternoon. What a world of difference between these and the Faber Castells! I'm so eager to have something to show off.
By the way, this is how dumb I am: I opened the box, saw the first layer of 45 pastels, and instead of thinking "I ordered more than this!" or even "There is another layer of pastels underneath this one," my immediate thought was "OOH LOOK AT THE COLORS" and it wasn't until I actually sat down to paint that I thought, "Hmm, I... don't have any greens" and then realized there was a second layer in the box under the top one.

Re: Monthly Scumble August 2012
Have fun! They are good pastels I think you will like them.
I have been working my tail off clearing ground and then setting and filling back in the holes for the piling foundation on my new studio. It is so exciting but also so much work! I spent 4 hours just today getting closely acquainted with my shovel and the piles of gravel and dirt that were turning to mud in the rain. I hurt everywhere! This is my 3rd day of, as my husband says, mans work! LOL He helped me yesterday but is off to moose hunt now so the rest is for me to get in shape doing Anyone want to come to Alaska for my weight loss camp? LOL

Re: Monthly Scumble August 2012
Christine- I'm glad they gave you a loaner. We're lucky to have 3 vehicles so if one is down, we're still covered. It's way inconvenient to live out here and not have a car. Hope they get it fixed right for you. and soon.
Paul- good supplies make a big difference. That was the first set I bought when I started doing pastels again. enjoy.
Tulabula- Ah yes "Mans Work" = weight loss and a good nights sleep and a fortune in Ibuprofen. sounds like wood cutting season here. Hopefully it will be over soon and focus on what you'll have when you're done!
Canning season is here...again. I have tomatoes everywhere. the dining room table, the kitchen table, the wood stove... any horizontal surface is covered in red. I am thankful for it, but what a job.
I spent part of yesterday chasing a steam train. I'm not much of a rail fan, but my husband loves the steam trains and this was the first one here in years. I got close enough to get cinders in my hair and a couple of good pictures. If you're interested in seeing some videos google Nickle Plate 765. We saw it go around the Horseshoe Curve.
Artists aren't nearly as crazy as rail fans. there were people there from New Jersey and Connecticut. A couple minutes after the train passed everyone would jump in their cars and chase it to the next spot it could be seen. We left pennies on the rail, but couldn't find them afterwards. Heres a picture I took- close enough to touch it....

Re: Monthly Scumble August 2012
yup- left the new jeep at the dealer for a small repair- and the technican backs into a pole with it. It only has 2,000 miles on it. That beats my record of being rear-ended with only 5,000 miles on the odometer of my SRT4.
never a dull day.....

OMG!!! I thought my four days before getting rear ended was a record! We took the Jeep in last Tuesday, got the loaner and then I had to take hubby to the hospital. He should've gone long before that, but Mr. Stubborn refused, insisting he was just fine. He finally agreed when I said we'd just go get checked out. I knew they would keep him. So he's been there for a week now. In the meantime, I picked up the Jeep on Friday and returned the rental. This morning the other guy's insurance company called him to ask when we were going to return the rental and get the Jeep back! So I called the rental car company and they assured me everything was fine on their end, they're waiting for the insurance company to finalize everything! Just one big nutso circle it seems!
I don't feel well myself today. Headache, sleepy and achy. I think cooler weather is on the way here in Colorado. I have a feeling it will be in the 80's one day and we'll wake up to a foot of snow the next day! lol I'm just hanging around the computer, surfing and lolly gagging my day away. Should be painting something and don't feel like doing that either. Ah well....

Christine- Not the kind of record you want to break...
Still canning and freezing.
But school starts tomorrow, the husband is working and I get the first day to myself since his knee surgury in the spring. Coffee on the porch with a good book for me!
Robert- I keep hoping to see you pop in- hope all is ok.

DBfarmgirl, up here in Pittsfield, MA I have seen Amtrak rail fans sitting up in the top of the station .... old farts with lunch boxes in their laps and cb radios in their hands, waiting for the next Amtrak train to come through.
Sure enough, AS SOON AS the train left the station they packed up their lunches and cb radios, and hopped in their cars to chase the train to the next station.
To me, that's akin to an obsession with catching moths on the front porch in the light and feeding them to spiders (I used to do that).

Re: Monthly Scumble August 2012
thevaliantx- I thought it was similar to someone chasing a movie star. My husband used to work for the railroad- he said it happened all the time even with the newer engines.
I have to admit it was kind of fun to chase a steam engine. I'm not smitten by diesel engines, don't see this becoming a new hobby. I have a healthy appreciation for the mechanics that are involved, the ground trembling when they pass and the lovely steam whistles.
I recommend even the slightly curious go see one if they can.
canning peaches now. 1 bushel down 1/2 to go.
I could really use some time painting.
