Re: Portrait Gallery--January 2011

Thanks Lauren and Sally. Yes, the pose is similar. I was lucky to have two lovely sisters to pose for me. I didn't do it from life but from a photo session I took posing them.

Re: Portrait Gallery--January 2011

Started a new drawing today at portraiture. We decided to have this model for a fourth week next Wednesday, so I can work on it for from life then... or not.

Here are two (bad) photos/ WIP shots.
First one at the break (after 1 hour, 10 minutes)
Second at the end of the session (add another hour).
I started the sketching in with light grey and added darker grey, then charcoal pencil (hard), so only part is clear. I measured the props out, by quarters, using my trusty knitting needle.

Re: Portrait Gallery--January 2011

The Gallery is kind of quiet this month....
Oh well, here is my latest version of Nicole, the first WIP of an oil:

Here is a photo of the pose:

(We may be featuring this and other angles of this pose in an upcoming Portrait Challenge.)

Cs & Cs welcome!

Lauren, she really does look like the Sargent lady! And what wonderful coloring she has!

Lauren, this should be beautiful in oils. She is a great model and love the purple dress and earrings with her vivid red hair.

Thanks, Nancy & Yvonne!
I hope I can do a decent job on this one. It's a challenge, but a lovely pose.

Re: Portrait Gallery--January 2011

Hi, enjoypainting!

It's time to start a new thread -- a new Portrait Gallery for February. I'll get it up tonight.
Could you please repost up this portrait and perhaps describe a bit more what you are aiming at here, as well as the size and medium used. Then it will be easier to comment. It's great that you are getting back to painting!
