Re: The 7th Annual Portrait Pairings and W.I.P. Thread!

Jeni, you are such a go-getter; I haven't even started yours! I love your portrayal of me -- you make me look better than I actually do, and have caught my personality in it.

I have toned a canvas for your portrait, and will start today, unless you would rather have a panel than a canvas? I'm eager to catch that infectious grin of yours in oil!

Did you get the bigger 300 dpi shot that I sent to your email? I would like one of you, too, but if you don't have that one, I understand, since someone took it at a wedding.

Re: The 7th Annual Portrait Pairings and W.I.P. Thread!

Thankyou, Jessica! Mind you I have a good model , poor Nancy isn't so lucky!!

Nancy, I am trying to send the higher res image, but your email is still blocking it? It isn't a size issue, it just says

is blocked by EarthLink. Go to earthlink.net/block for details.

Not sure what to do to get round it? Any ideas???

I do have a higher res image to send if I can work out how!!

Whichever is easier for you in terms of support!! Good luck

The painting behind, that I have just hinted at is one of Nancy's and I think it would be nice to include it but want to make sure she stays the focus of the portrait! I would like to soften it off a lot in the main one, and know how to do it with oil glazes, but sadly not with pastels.

This is great fun, but it is scarey with such an accomplished artist as the sitter!!! Nancy I hope you like it as a starter for 10!!

Yep thats our Oily doll right there , well done on this Jen , cant wait to see yours in oils...

Jeni, I just requested Earthlink to unblock your address; I have no idea why they blocked it! They haven't bounced anything I've sent, as far as I know!

Re: The 7th Annual Portrait Pairings and W.I.P. Thread!

Here is a sketch of Ujwala using pan pastel, charcoal and some white pastel. I wanted to do the sketch in train my observation to be more careful and hopefully address the tricky stuff that I might need to fix later in the painting.

My plan also to do this in oil. I see many things I'll need to work out (adding life to the drawing, likeness, pushing the values, the shirt, the hair...) but I miss working with color and I am eager to get out the paint.

Jeni, I like your start. I love that you have tackled the background so well. I decided to just darken the whole thing.

Max

Max this is lovely! I am especially interested in seeing what people are doing with those pan pastels.

Well done, Max, this looks like a great start, I saw pan pastels but had no idea how to use 'em (much like stick pastels )

I've just seen Nancy's sketch and that is fab too!

I sent the sketch of Jeni on PM for her approval, and got it , so here's my initial sketch on toned canvas.
