Re: Monthly challenge: June 2019

Hi Maureen - I should have been more specific; the initial sketch was lightly done in graphite and the rest in pen and ink (Pigma Micron 0.20mm sepia, Pilot Precise V5 extra-fine black, as well as Sharpie Ultra-fine colored ink pens) with only the tips and stem-line of the flower petals highlighted in white colored pencil).

I chose An object within 6 feet of my position. Well I tend to draw while sat on the sofa, and to the right of me is a lamp. Well, you need good light to draw by right...

I forgot a suggestion as well. How about a pen and ink portrait? I hardly ever draw life studies and could do with some practise.

Very nice Green Ink you should start a journal in which you put your thoughts and small drawings daily. Then in later years you can look back on it and recall the scent and loveliness of those flowers. I have to say they look a great deal like Cornflowers. Did you maybe mean cornflowers instead of coneflowers? Cornflowers are so pretty an most often grow alongside red poppies that red and blue together so striking.

Ah you got the wrong person. The flower drawing isn't mine. I did the lamp.

Re: Monthly challenge: June 2019

I'm away this month in our caravan so I've stretched the criteria a little, it's either something from 60 foot ish or leisure equipment in the way of the motor home pitched in front of us. The buildings in front of it are part of a racecourse complex.
5 x 7 sketchbook Twisbi and Noodler s
The colour is from inktense sticks applied with a waterbrush

Re: Monthly challenge: June 2019

Very well done Potterspink, your buildings are very nicely in perspective, ( I am currently obsessed with perspective sorry hehe) And lucky you travelling around like a gypsy, they do it here in Oz as well. Everywhere you go nomads are on the move. Wish I could do the same but it's a costly business isn't it??

Re: Monthly challenge: June 2019

Thanks Magdalenel, I enjoyed drawing it. I've been doing a lot of watercolours lately so succumbed to the coloured ink washes but I think I should have left it monochrome. I'm never certain with ink drawings whether or not to introduce colour.

Re: Monthly challenge: June 2019

Magdalene and Maureen, thank you for your kind comments on my rooster.

Skip, your flowers are very cheery and colorful!
Green Ink, nice drawing of the lamp, can I borrow it at night?
Bonnie, your drawing also looks a lot like coneflowers. Especially with the bees loving the flowers! Your description of the conditions while drawing sound delightful!
Potters, I like the textures you achieved on the buildings.

It's open to any interpretation! I'm liking the ideas you are suggesting.

Re: Monthly challenge: June 2019

So, as you can see, I forgot the condition of using 75% ink. It was, in fact, 100% ink until I started doodling with my pastels..... flowers need color! I should have grabbed colored inks but they are further away! Then I did a few doodles in ink to compensate- and I drew in black ink under the line I had intended as the cut off...... but I did it!

Re: Monthly challenge: June 2019

Thanks Skip!

Larry - we all need good light for reading and armchair art - nice one!

Bonnie - sounds like an idyllic day! - lovely drawing of the cornflower too - that wispy, fragile look!

Potters - I like your little 'stretch' of the challenge subjects! Needs must - and a lovely drawing which, I think, needed the colour for the atmosphere!

Sheila - I don't mind you getting carried away with the thrill of the moment! - and did you actually have a protea too? Lovely!

... and your suggestion for next month is ............?
