Rob's 2014 Sketches...

I'll make my new thread now, since it's less than 3 hours to 2014 here in San Francisco. Not going to make it for a month since I've been so slow the past few months, just call it 2014 and see how that goes for a while. I should sketch more. I've been tempted to daily sketching again but that went out the window this morning... so... set no deadline, don't worry about it, sketch when I do and see if I do more without worrying about when.

Re: Rob's 2014 Sketches...

Ari Sketches
7" square
Pigma Micron (sepia), watercolor, colored pencil, white pen.
Stillman & Birn Delta Journal
Photo reference for the large colored pencil portrait, my own from last night. The rest were from life.

Ari wanted to pose with his sketch page. First couple of tries he was standing on it, putting his head over it, getting in the way... he's a cat!

So naturally my first sketches for 2014 are really my last sketches of 2013, but I'd already made my new thread. So here they are.

Re: Rob's 2014 Sketches...

Purr thank you! When I'm uninspired... all I have to do is look at my Ari and I feel like drawing again.

It wouldn't really be one of my journals without at least one page of Ari sketches. Page seven this time... definitely on a roll with this one and enjoying the square format.

These are great! Love the little wash of your kitty in the lower right. Best of luck with your new sketchbook.

Re: Rob's 2014 Sketches...

Purr thanks! The little wash on the lower right, he moved after about 10 seconds and I had to do him half from memory. Very tricky, and I'm happy with it. I need to try more often to catch him moving.

Purr thanks Kat!

This is great. I can't 'sketch' like that. Must be fun to be able to free sketch. Gorgeous cat too

I love this collection of sketches of Ari!!! You could probably do an entire sketchbook of just him. Keep them coming!

Thank you! You know, you're right, I probably could fill a sketchbook with nothing but Ari and it'd be so much fun. I love him so much and he's such a joy to draw from life or photos.

Re: Rob's 2014 Sketches...

Purr thank you! Ari is right on my lap while I'm posting.

I found one sketch from 2013 that I don't think I posted in this teeny tiny Moleskine pocket sketchbook - it's like an ATC size one, staple bound, quite small and I got a pack of them. One was in my pocket and so I did some sketching at appointments on different days. Today finally photoed what was in it because I got a new one done waiting for the van.

Pencil from life of that tree outside the front door of my building. Did it in January and may have already posted it.

Building sketched from life in December in Pigma Micron pen - gee this is my life sketchbook, isn't it?

Plant in ballpoint pen on same tiny sketchbook, from life no penciling before inking. Just pen sketch waiting for van.

Horse in Conte gray and black sticks on 7" Stillman & Birn journal same as the Ari pictures, proportions are off on it I'm sure. From photo by Loni Ice.

There we go. Today at last I've done some February art. It's coming up on Cheap Chocolates Day, all you singles out there who are getting shamed for not being picked can look forward to gorging on the Day After Romantic Public Obligations Day.
