Lovely DMags! Mine isn't finished yet. I wonder have you tried to erase the pencils marks? They do stand out a bit in the photo.

Thank you Rosemarie. I haven't tried to erase the pencil marks - was leaving them in for character, but will now consider removing them. I appreciate your input.

You are welcome! I usually also leave pencil marks but here they stand out. Might not be so obvious on the original painting though. Only you can judge that.
See you on Saturday!

This has the story book look to it. I would use more bold angles for the rock shapes.

Re: Johannes - Student Critique Posts Only

Jo, I am giving this a second try to get it posted. This is my first ever painting and I am 72! It is on Art Spectrum pastel paper Australian gray which came to me as tan rather than gray. It is a gift for a friend from Australian who became fascinated with my rural mail box and the red flag. So I tried to feature it without messing up the painting. I am having a problem with warm and cold colors since I am so new at this. I used Pan Pastels and the painting was small-only 8X10 so my friend could get it printed over there. I composed and drew the drawing myself. Next I plan to try Jo's horse painting from last week but in Pan Pastels. He has already told me to use pastel pencils for the building and the horses because of the detail. I think this covers it. Frances

Oh my gosh, it is there. I give all the credit to Noah for getting this posted. You wouldn't believe how long we were working on this. So----Please critique, I am thinking the lead in at bottom left is too dark-probably bushes need more open space or brightness. ??? I'm afraid I can pick this to death. It really is a little brighter in real life than the posted pic. Janette

Re: Johannes - Student Critique Posts Only

VanB ~ I really like the feel of the bigger rocky mountain areas on the left and the right. They have great form and look 'real.' I think though, that the middle line of mountains in the back may be too dark and, therefore, distracting. I like the depth to the lower left area. It does look like a drop off there.

I think the whole painting has a well done, not overworked feel to it.

Kind of new to oils. This is like my 3rd painting. Please provide some constructive criticism.
