Re: A Peeling

Hi Derek,
I want to congratulate you on this exceptional painting. I remember that you recently had to take a enforced break from painting due to an injury/health issue. I think that sometimes time away from a beloved activity or sport allows time for contemplation and reflection that can result in unexpected insights and growth. Your work is always outstanding, but this painting, in terms of its composition and technical execution, is really remarkable. Do you think the break had any effect on your approach?

Laura

Re: A Peeling

Laura: thanks so much for the kind words. Actually, I went into a bit of a depression due to my hands and forearms becoming numb. I play keyboards in a band and this hampered my playing as well as painting. I binged on artbooks and art magazines in my lazyboy chair.....that was nice. Getting better physically, but not sure if it changed my style or way of working.
All the best. Derek

Derek, I'm sending you Not-Numb-Anymore vibes!

Honestly, it's not showing in your work.
Feel better my friend.

Hey good bud: For some reason, a good scotch on the rocks gets rid of the symptoms. Doc says it is not so much the pinched nerve now, but the muscles around it. meditation, booze and relaxation seem to help.......and of course your vibes, Jess.

I saw the image, and instantly reacted with "oh COOL" and then the next thing is saw was WFM's comment. It seems we are somewhat in agreement. Does this mean there is an objective coolness in the painting?

Re: A Peeling

I like this a lot. There's more to this painting than what appears. Makes one want to keep looking at it and seeing more as you look through the windows.

Re: A Peeling

Me again. Also makes me think of Andrew Wyeth a bit, sort of nostalgic country feel.

Not sure where my post went, but again ...
Love the subject, and the execution was exceptional.
