Way Outta' My Box!

While browsing through an old, old sketchbook of mine, I found a crazy, surreal, abstract drawing that I had made years ago, and I thought it would be fun to paint the silly thing. I grabbed a nice, oil-primed Claessens Linen RayMar panel, and transferred the drawing to it.

Then I went to work with oil paint, and this is the result. I've shown a photo of it to several of my art friends, and they actually like it!

Anyway, I thought I'd post it here so you all can have your way with it in terms of critiquing it. It surely is WAY outta' MY "box"!

"Biff"....16" x 20" Oil on Linen Panel
I can't seem to get rid of the doggone gray line running down the left side of the painting, no matter how I update the photo, and re-submit it, but that gray line is NOT part of the painting. Nor is it part of my photo.

I had a BALL paintin' this silly thing!!!

Q: How many surrealists does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Fish!

I like it. Is it first in a series? It needs a fish.

Hahahahaha......Yeah, it does! Maybe a "series", depending upon how popular it may be in a local show, or two in which I may enter it.

Yeah, it needs a fish!

Neato Keeno as I used to say in the 60's.

FYI I don't see a gray line in the photo.

It was there initially, but it is miraculously gone, now!

Re: Way Outta' My Box!

Interesting painting. Many of your paintings I've seen are in vivid color (especially the flowers!) and in this the colors are limited in comparison with those. Biff? I see pie and planets! Nice! :P

Hahaha,.....Good question! My wife and I are absolutely hooked on the TV sitcom, "Big Bang Theory", and we watch it whenever it is on, as well as watching re-runs via recordings. One evening, in the show, several of the members are sitting around, discussing the old movie, "Back to the Future", in which one of the characters name is "Biff". The Indian astronomer in Big Bang, Raj, says, "Biff, ...What a silly name. That is the sound you expect when you open a cylinder of Pillsbury's biscuit dough.......'BIFF'" ! He says that as he twists his hands as if opening a cylinder of Pillsbury biscuit dough.

Hence, the title, "Biff".
