Re: A Painting a Day Challenge! Plus some changes,,,

I know that I *need* to do a painting a day, but I feel like I'll just let myself down by taking that option. If I choose APAW, can I post paintings more often than that?

Re: A Painting a Day Challenge! Plus some changes,,,

Different time zone here so I guess I'm a bit early. Here goes my first day. A shy rose.

oil paint on canvas board 16cm x 25,5 cm (so about 6x10 inches I think)

I'm not used to alla prima painting except for the occasional WDE. I really want to go in there when its dry to work on it further. add some depth and deepen the shadows, lighten the lights, all of which I would normally do in a second, third and so on session.
But very excited about this challenge and since everything is allowed in love and art I might sneak in there in march and touch them up from imagination

Hey Marie, it's beautiful! I love the unusual view of the flower and the loose treatment of the wall and the shadow. You seem to be an alla prima natural. A great start to the thread!

Nancy, if it's a hassle to start a new thread (I hadn't realized that it was) then no worries. I had hoped the title I suggested might help draw more participants by letting people know upfront that it could be as much as weekly instead of daily. That probabky isn't necessary though, since there seem to be quite a few of us already.

So far a lovely rose by Marie, and a lovely face by Leigh! It looks we've started on a good day for painting - and I'm eager to see how nicely this goes!

It looks like we have more weekly than daily painters at this point, so all of you can be aware that every three days is an option, too.

Here's my beginning, like Marie I would like to go back in and work on it but.... this is my pet finch, Daphnis. About 4x5" in oils on mixed media paper. A few things are wonky

Nice paintings, Marie, Lawrence, Logan and Beth. I'm going for the weekly paintings, but it is very encouraging to see so much good work on the first day.

Re: A Painting a Day Challenge! Plus some changes,,,

So I'm sort of cheating a little bit, but I worked on this a couple of days before and finished it up tonight. It's a landscape/cityscape of High Falls in Rochester, NY from a reference photo I found online. I figure since it's my first oil painting ever, I can play a little fast and loose with the copyright, no one's going to be buying this. Anyways, it says I need two posts before I can post post an image and this is post number two, so scroll down.

Day two already.

Glad to see I'm not the only one going for the daily challenge. Nice work. I'm looking forward seeing everybody's chain of paintings.

I decided on the same setup as yesterday, same size more or less but different colours. I might try this rose for a few more days but then in different set-ups/angles.

Looking forward seeing everybody's work

Hi Annie you can get large sheets of masonite here and some places will cut them down, problem is they dont cut them down small enough for what I want and although I can and have cut them down myself Im too lazy and the pre cut ones are always so much more accurate.

I normally use a a clear Gesso for preparing my panels

It is beautiful, from an abstract point of view, but I can't "see" the rose. Is its back facing us?
