Transfer from 4_13 WDE, Japanese Lantern

From this weekend's drawing event, I chose the Japanese Lantern and decided I would try to make it a night scene.

8 by 10 inches on gessoed hardboard, Gray Pas Specialists, all blending done with paper stumps. The white photographed brighter than IRL.

I did try to suggest a light source within the lantern.

I guess I should call this a WIP. I see a couple of touch ups that need to be done. The right leg needs rounding and some shadowing from the reed passing in front of the lantern.

Also the camera lightened and brightened the whites more than IRL.

Suggestions for improvement welcome.

Hal, very interesting abstract like foliage in the background. I like your choice of colors. I particularly like the wet ground on the right. The water looks good. Nice painting.

The weather in coastal New Hampshire was fantastic today, so Gus and I spent some time on the deck and I tweaked my painting a bit.

Unless there is some glaring, embarassing error with it, I'll call this one finished.

I love that pop of orange from within then lantern. And it's a perfect compliment to the dark greens around it.. Great use of color.

Nice painting.

Hal you fixed the only 2 small issues i could see looking at the 1st post, you changed the lantern base to be more symetrical and stable looking and also diffused the white line of the water line where it intersects with the rock at the base of the lantern.
Great piece
