Re: February 2018 Fantasy and Sci-Fi Art Monthly Challenge and Chat!

I told my son if he gets one, it needs to be one of those mother ones. My husband has a couple from his youth but he regrets them. They're so faded. My sons girlfriend has many of them, her legs are covered. She keeps her arms clear of them though as she wears scrubs at work.

My gf still works at the hospital and she agrees that visible tattoos are really looked down on in modern healthcare. Me, I'm out of it and glad I am! Not that I would want a tattoo, or a gf that had one,or a nurse that had one. Just mark me down as "hidebound reactionary." PS, at the New years party that my gf carted me to, there were several really lovely girls that were untatooed. They uniformly wrinkled their lovely noses at the idea.

lol Bill, I was going to say that a dot would be all I could handle. My husband has one on his arm, a Harley type logo with flames and his nickname, my name, and our son's.

Bill, it's funny, my son doesn't have any tattoos at all, he can't stand them but all his friends are tatted up.

My husband was supposed to have a nerve block done on his neck tomorrow (he has lingering injuries from the military). They've cancelled it as a good bit of snow is coming. Well I guess it's not so much the snow as the strong winds that will make a mess of things.

It's very very still out, the somber stillness that comes before a big storm. I like it, it's that kind of eerieness that gets under your skin. I wish I could paint that feeling!

I think Giorgione did it best:

Re: February 2018 Fantasy and Sci-Fi Art Monthly Challenge and Chat!

I've been busy the last few days, what a whirlwind.
So my husbands hip surgery will be later now. The insurance company wants him to be flown out to one of their Wellness Centers. They will cover everything there airplane flights, hotel, meal allowance and best of all 100% cost of the surgery! So we are in limbo now as to a time frame. This was Wednesday morning and right after this phone call Terry went out to get something from his car and the back deck was covered in very clear ice and he fell down the stairs but attempted to stop the fall (as you do) and accidentally impaled his hand on the gate latch. It is not sharp in any way however the force cut him up bad and he was hanging there and yelled for me. I rushed out to see him hanging there and naturally ran out on the porch (not knowing about the ice). I did a feet out from under me completely flat fall, bam! When I got my breath back I crawled to him and we both crawled inside. Wrapped his hand up in gaze and a towel and tried to call work to say I was going to the ER. I couldn't see the numbers on the phone and tried to straiten my glasses, they were not on my face so I looked out on the porch, yep, there they were so I crawled out to get my glasses I must have hit my head so hard they flew off. So I called work and off to the ER and 14 stitches for Terry in his hand.
When we came home we looked at the latch and it was a bloody mess and there was still meat on it from Terry's hand.
I got him into bed and started to clean up the blood trails all over the house.
We are both doing better, a bit beat up but healing.

As I said over in Acrylics, Dianna, I am sorry for both you and your husband. Get well and stay well!

Things are healing...slow but sure.
His hand looks hideous!
I took some photos after it was stitched up, very gross!
But I must say I'm super impressed with the macro setting on my camera. Wow, you can see every ridge of skin and even little fat cells that were leaking from between the stitches, cool in a scientific way.
(In Otto's voice from the Simpsons) Fangora will pay me twenty five dollars for these photos.

I haven't seen the photos, but those aren't cells, sweetie, they are fat globules with many hundred of fat cells. Still, that's the purist view. Personally, I would never let a patient out of my procedure room with visible fat globules. But, you know, the younger generation ...

Bill I knew they were "fat globules" I called them that when talking but I couldn't spell that and spell check wasn't helping me on it.
Also maybe the difference between "Surgeon" and "ER Doctor".
Plus when we left the ER it was very clean they leaked out later. There were a bunch of them left on the the latch as well as some meat and skin.
His hand is now healing which involves many colorful bruises and swelling.
Off to work now!

Well, that's an indication that the ER doc didn't tell your husband to keep his hand higher than his heart, and it swelled. Those guys (and gals) are short on follow-up advice. (They refer them to us surgeons and we have to deal with the aftermath)

Bill I think it is normal amount of swelling for that type of trauma.
The bruising also is to be expected...a rough wound like that and being hung from that hand like a Medieval rack...it will look bad.
By the way Terry is a Nurse and does treatments and wound care so he is doing everything he knows, to do the best for himself and have a good recovery.
Just curious what type of Surgeon were you, what specialty?

We had a lot of wind out here this weekend. Good thing we didn't plan on any outdoor activities anyway. I was in the pool or relaxing in the hotel room.

Um... not sure if I want to see that photo Dianna. What a traumatic weekend you had! I hope his hand heals well.
