My first art student

I've always thought that video is pretty much the best thing for teaching any skill, second only to real in-person training.

Since I really liked the way my drawing teacher taught his craft, I thought I'd share, and made some youtube videos in which I explain everything step by step, the way it was explained to us.
I also invited anyone who wants to learn, to follow along and send me their work, for critique.

So far my only student was (quite surprisingly) a friend of mine, a programmer, who never really held a pencil before, not to draw anyway :P
Once he saw that drawing is a step-by step process, not just inborn magic, he set out to work, and this is his progress:







This happened over the course of 4 weeks, and we only worked online, over skype, because we're in different cities.

So what do you think? Is this regular progress or did I stumble over a quick learner ?

I'd say he has some strong innate art talent, not everyone can do this and most artists cannot progress this fast. There are many who have been at it for years and cannot do this well. These are not hard to find.

Not to discount your input, either, a good teacher is important as well.

A good teacher is one who opens doors and lets students walk through to explore what is on the other side. Looks like you accomplished it.

I hope you are thrilled with yourself! You are a TEACHER! I have stressed so many times that a real teacher does not hold back on giving out their "magic". The feeling you get when your student "gets it" is beyond gold!!!
