Cord

So, I have half-a-dozen projects either in the works or pending, but until one of my commissions (one maybe-gonna-be, one in the consultation stage) blossoms, I'm gonna entertain myself. Enter the Cord Luxury Automobile, from a series of photos I took at the Ault Park (Cincinnati) Concours d'Elegance this last spring (14.5X18")

From decision to scratch, what's done thus far is all today. Yeah, it's quite the close-up, with the exhaust pipe covers exiting the bonnet grilles and plunging through the fender ports. The car in the photos is white, so reflection on the sheet metal is almost nonexistent, but all the chrome just makes me giddy. I know: weird. I've known me for a long time and have grown accustomed to it. This is going to be one hellaciously technical piece for something intended to communicate a psuedo-minimalist vibe upon completion...We'll see how that goes, I guess.

Re: Cord

Timing, Venkat...
Working away in my COLD studio (it's over the garage, and I am NOT turning the heat on yet!) while I listen to my Colts game.
Working the chrome tones so far. The grating and trim at the ports is kinda the focal point, so I'm pouring my attention there for now...

SO far to go, but loving the process. Nothing easy here!

Re: Cord

I knew this was going to be a technical piece when I started, but man, I underestimated the depth of work to be done! Enjoying it though, and learning as I go!

Re: Cord

Monday morning...I LOVE getting up early and pouring a couple of hours into my work before life comes calling! Figure I'll finish this sometime this week...

The finished piece will feature the chrome brightwork ONLY, and no highlights, reflections, or other hints at the actual bodywork of the car. Call it an experiment, I guess, but I think it should work pretty well.

Re: Cord

TJ and Sean, I thank you. Realism is almost always the goal in my work, and to tell the story of course...(plus the metal's just plain fun!)
Speaking of the metal, it's starting to take shape. I've cleaned up a lot of the transfer guidelines in prep for some ink washes, and I'm figuring on finishing it up tomorrow morning...

I think it's working.

Re: Cord

And one more look for today...

Finishing touches around the ports and especially in the grate areas. Definitely helped there.

Re: Cord

I just couldn't resist some last minute adjustments, and if you look closely, you'll see the grated areas reflected in the exhaust pipe sections. I saw it in a (greatly enlarged) photo reference and just had to toss it in there.
All finished though, and moving on!

Thanks for watching, all!

Re: Cord

Ginger, Harry, Trilby, and Patrick (and everyone else who watched as I worked this one out), I thank you all. Pretty happy with the way this one turned out, honestly!
