The Unsuccessful Pear

OK I bought the Colored Pencil Bible, and tried to do the pear. I haven't used my colored pencils in forever; or done any art for quite awhile. I failed to achieve the quality I wanted. It was my first time using OMS. And I muddied the colors a bit.
But posting for other suggestions and will attempt again to improve.
Thanks in advance for help.

Re: The Unsuccessful Pear

Hi Ang,
I think you did a nice job on this.
I do like the strong color, typical indeed for her technique.
I remember I also did her pear and found it also hard to achieve what I wanted,it took a lot of time to get what I liked.

You outlined the pear to strong (green) and bolt and lost depth because of that.
Important is to use a sharp point to outline a subject like this .
If you draw more till the edge than it will be a big improvement.
The colours are not very muddy I think, just work in light layers.
And blend the solvent in a tapping motion. (not to big movements)

I cutted it in photoshop, and you will notice it will be a bit more natural .
btw, which brand pencils and paper did you used?

Wow, thanks, it is hard to believe that this is the same drawing. When I was using the OMS I was definately reliving my watercolor painting days. I will make sure to dab next time.
I used Prismacolors and Stonehenge 250GSM, but I have no idea how that would equate into lbs.
Now I am more excited to do this project again.
I really appreciate the tips.

Re: The Unsuccessful Pear

Hi,

Very good attempt. I also bought the Colored Pencil Bible myself about a month ago and have been trying the projects. Most of the time I am not pleased with the outcome, but I am still excited to try something new.
