Black & White

Another one...

As with the last one, clicking the images will show larger ones

Unlike the other one, I began dreading this one. I found out that when it comes to playing on my computer, I like to work in full colour and black and white was a complete drag. About 1:00 this afternoon I decided that I didnt even really want to continue, because I detested it so much. Then went to work. Got home. And decided to continue pushing it.

It wasnt until I started piecing together images and adding the text that I actually started to like it. Hmmm. I guess I'm satisfied now. Any thoughts?

Its a lot cuter than the other one. I think I preffer blood and gore. Oh well. It shows flexibility, right?

I really need to hire that writer. lol

I know its hard to read like this. I can post the poem later if you want.

Re: Black & White

hey 's going alright on this end Now that the work is done and I have nothing to do tonight but sit here and waste away

I wish this was entirely done on the computer! But i dont have a tablet. Instead I draw, ink, scan, and then colour the images on the computer, and place them together on the page, add text, whatnot. Very similar to how the work in this thread was done: http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=204092

Its a sucessful way of doing stuff like this, and I enjoy it. Would love to go complete digital someday tho.

Re: Black & White

quite a gear shift here. yep, pleasing a wide range is good.
fer panel #1 the main pict. seems too light...don't know if this is because you want the focus on the eyes above it. but, compared to panel #2 (which is great)it seems weak. panel #3 i think is something about details...maybe more decoration in dragon scales...more contrast...maybe the castle more elaborate...stoney details. #4 is a total b&w, knock your booties off, success! i think this would make a kick butt wedding invitation! if you ever get married...i dare you to use it! & #5...no mistake --color is natural for you...just awesome.

Ha! if i get married your all invited to the wedding

Thanx for the comments. You think I should darken the image in the first page? I wanted to make it light and airy, so I tried softening it up a lot to make it more fluff than nuff (lol) hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Re: Black & White

"wuv... twue wuv...."

Seriously, very nice work. I have a hard time with sentimental things, I don't think I've bought a sentimental card in 5-10yrs. Probably some deep physcological scarring in childhood.....or something.

anyway, I said seriously, right? I see what jen is saying about panel 1, just not sure I agree. When I look at them all together, panels 1 & 3 go together and panels 2 & 4 go together, in an alternatiing pattern. I feel like anything you do to 1 you would then need to do to 3 or it would be the standout. The more I look at it, I think I would vote to make all 4 panels the same. So, darken panels 1 & 3. I don't think you would lose the light airy feeling. Or, not, I think it works fine as is.

I didn't think it was too hard to read. I liked the push pull of the text, and felt that you did a good job of integrating the text and images.

What I first noticed was the castle in panel 3 seemed a bit out of style with the rest of the images, but then I re-examined the other panels and saw the same cloud shapes, so it fit a little better for me then.

One other....I agree about depth and range being a good thing, however, this is quite a contrast to the last one, so if it's a bit out of the norm for you, don't make it the sole sample of that type in your portfolio, reserve it incase you're asked for other work, know what I mean?

All just my humble opinion.................

Re: Black & White

This is just down right beautiful!! Nice job Axl!!

I was pondering the 'working in black and white' thing and I have a suggestion although I have not tried this. Work the image in color and then when it looks good convert it to black and white. It sounds too simple to be true so it probably is hehe.
