Re: Sandra's Challenge

Love the jackalopes and the pigs, Sandra! Excellent work on the wire pig! I wondered if you had tried that technique. I hope you had fun, because wire is something very different to work with. Well done! And how wonderful of Max to send you one of his beautiful sculptures!

Donna, I had to laugh at your story with the goat. We used to have a pet goat. We loved him dearly, but he was the best watch dog you ever would see. He was very loyal, but he too would do that rear up on his back legs and come at you full force. He had long, pretty straight horns that came to blunt tips. He knew that if he butted you, the best place to target was just below the kneecap. It would definitely get your attention! He also had a wood dog house that he slept in. On his moody days (don't let anyone tell you otherwise - goats can be very moody!) he would ram into the back of the dog house repeatedly. If you heard a hard thump over and over, you knew the goat was all bent out of shape about something. His house had big holes in it and he seemed to like it that way. Ah, those crazy goats.

Re: Sandra's Challenge

Sandra...love the pigs and goats...and this song popped into my head...just so it gets into yours too I will try hard to think up a word to do with Western art....but so far all I've come up with is an old comic character...Desperate Dan and his cow sandwich!

Re: Sandra's Challenge

Deirdre, what a hilarious song. It's stuck in my head now. First time I heard it and the goat in the end is so funny. I could imagine a whole film clip on it.

But for now, my first encounter with this Desperate Dan character. Never heard of him ever but I hope I did him justice.

The page has pan pastel on to start and I erased it and put more pastel pencil and pen line on it.

You got him Sandra! What a hoot! I remembered him from the Dandy Comic of my childhood...and it wasn't a sandwich...it was Cow pie...with the horns showing

Re: Sandra's Challenge

Sandra..you are amazing at the rate you turn out these clever and whimsical characters. You must be sketching non-stop, night and day. As I mentioned some time ago, I am fascinated with them.

Re: Sandra's Challenge

I did, Deirdre? Great!!! Yeah, cow pie with horns showing. What a fun characrter.

Max, I am sketching night and day. My drug is keeping me wide awake and I'm very bad with valium and sleeping pills of any sort and am refraining from taking them. So I'm awake around the clock, until I couldn't stand it anymore at every 4th hour or so and fall asleep. That way, I still get 6 hours a day of sleep. Not ideal but beats having more drugs to induce sleep.

I did it, Max. My first piglet with Crayola air dry clay.

Re: Sandra's Challenge

Sandra, the "Desperate Dan" sketch is bursting with character! Love it. And what a wonderful job you did with your pig sculpture! Great personality and feel to it. Sorry to hear sleep doesn't want to come to you. Take it easy. I'm so glad you have your art. Keep it up.

Hi Deirdre! Great to see you over here.

Re: Sandra's Challenge

Here's a quick goat sketch. We had a goat when I was a kid and we loved him! He looked basically like this sketch in markings. He was an interesting pet to be sure.

This took about 15 minutes or so, ballpoint pen on sketchpad. Around 4x4 inches in size.

Feel free to sketch and post, gang, and don't forget to shout out a SW themed word on what should be sketched!

Re: Sandra's Challenge

Thank you, Jenna, Deirdre. Some rosy cheeks sounds good for my first piglet.

Jenna, your goat has that wise look unlike all the bad rap they've been given in the last few posts. LOL.

Yeah, give me a word!!!I want to sketch!!

Re: Sandra's Challenge

Thanks so much, Sandra! They are surprisingly crafty and clever creatures, mixed with a bit of foolhardy and simple. They'll keep you on your toes one way or another!

Here's a word: Mountains!
