Hi guys,
Thought I might start a new journal this year to improve my skills and hopefully have a place to explore my trial and error attempts at using my new Simili Japon paper filled journal. I believe it is around 90lb and smooth like good HP watercolour paper. It takes a light wash very well and is excellent with pen and ink.
Here is the gear list as my first page.

Here’s a bunch of somewhere around 30 second to 1 minute studies of my middle child. She’s 17 months old and moves too quickly for anything more! Hopefully I’ll get better at capturing her face.

Thanks Doug,
I like trying to capture things with quick sketches. It’s difficult and I don’t often get a likeness but I’m trying to improve. Longer studies often turn out better but they sometimes seem too tight. I’m trying to loosen up a bit.

Yes, I get about 10 minutes here or there and sometimes an hour when all 3 are in bed asleep in the evening. I have a 3 year old in Kindergarten, a 17 month old and a 6 week old at home. It’s challenging but rewarding too.

Here’s another quick sketch of my middle child. She stood long enough for me to get a basic wash in too. Drawn in about a minute and a half with ink and handmade watercolours.

Here are two more quick sketches. These are of my husband while he was sitting on the couch. He moves just about as much as my middle child so they are fast sketches too! (Will I ever have time for something longer?!)
