Re: New

Hi, I'm the new guy.

So, here's the one I did tonight. No, I don't know what I'm doing but I kind of like this one.

I took the photo on my laptop.

Hi & Welcome....nice bright colours in this one! you have a smiley face in the bottom left of the image...so that's a good start! If you want critiques, just put C&C next time you post.

Re: New

Hi new guy... Welcome to the forum. Everyone's got to start somewhere and I think you have a great start. Here's something to think about... if you don't know what you're doing.. you should be just painting from the heart. Which is good. You will learn things along the way by the good people here (like Katie and others). They will tell you about things to consider when your working on something. I had to learn the hard way myself, but it's not that bad.

Keep them coming!

Welcome to the Forum!

It helps the viewer when you share some basic information regarding media, size, support, etc. As Katie mentioned, if you want specific critiques be sure to ask for C&C (comments and critiques) in your post.

As long as you are enjoying the process of experimenting and learning you will do fine. If you are using Acrylic paints you might find some helpful threads in the Acrylic Forum on techniques. Be sure to investigate the Information Kiosk as it has many threads on various techniques - glazing, crackle effects, marbling, etc. which are applicable to any subject matter.

Re: New

All that orange and a speck of blue is actually a good color choice as they naturally compliment. I see a little shark chasing a fish, an anchor and a seal. and orange tide as opposed to red tide

Re: New

You have a fun piece here, new guy ! It reminds me of a spaghetti disaster on the floor after a toddler made contact, haha. Nice job. If anything, perhaps you could add more dark tones?

Regards,
Cory

Re: New

Hi everyone and thank you for looking at my novice painting. Next time I'll remember to add C&C.

I posted that one only because I felt really good while I was painting it, I had a buzz going with this one, like playing drums in a jazz band. And that's what I always listen to when I paint, I run my Pandora jazz station, sit down with a cold beer and try to sort of feel something. On this particular night, though, I wasn't getting hung up with my technical shortcomings, I was just grooving along, lost in what I was doing. It was a hell of a lot of fun.

I don't think it's very good, but I like it because of how I felt while I was doing it.

PS At Jon's suggestion: this is acrylic on 16x20 Canson canvas paper. The support is just the cardboard backing from a previous canvas paper pad, I use Canson disposable pallete paper and I use a music stand for an easel, it works pretty well.

Re: New

No, it is good because it provoked some positive feelings in you (from what I gather). Way to go!

Thanks, Alan. I very much admire your painting "Nude In The Mirror." That's technique, what I'm aiming for. It's the kind of representational painting that I can really get behind. Oh baby, I'd love to be able to paint like that.

From now on I'll make it a point to click on everyone's links. What a place!

J,
Thanks so much for checking out my site/blog! Thanks even more for liking my "Nude in Mirror" piece.

Yes, WC really is a great place to learn and ask advice. Everyone--for the most part-- is really nice and cool. I've been posting here for a year and plan to continue. If you are established or starting artists like you and me, great advice is always around.

Re: New

I find this work has a lovely loose and expressive quality - a quality that many seem to be chasing (so try not to lose it )

This response prompted me to look at your site as well. I love all of your nude paintings, and the coffee cup one as well. Very nice work.
