Re: Hang on! WIP.

This is coming along nicely! Iím a bit curious though, about the process. Why do you (and many others Iíve seen here) start with rendering the background and everything else before painting the faces? Since this is water color, it seems to me you have less room for correcting errors, especially if you go too dark I guess. I would think that getting the faces right would be the crucial step in a portrait and if you start with the faces and you mess up, you have less invested and can start over from scratch. But if you render everything and then do the faces last and screw up something you would throw away many hours of work! Iíd be super nervous at the point you are in the process!

Re: Hang on! WIP.

Thanks for dropping in Sam; I generally start with the background leaving the portrait(s) to the last since I don't seem to ever have a problem that couldn't be worked out satisfactorily. This particular piece is giving me a bit of reworking with the two lads on the bottom. The original sketch wasn't accurate to my mind so I've changed them to suit my progression. One thing in my favour is that the photos that I'm using for this painting are from photos taken in '92. No one is concerned about their exact expression or colour. Thankfully, I have the original and they don't....
