Re: The Spotlight - September 2018 - Nocturnes

Jay and Donna, thank you for your comments.

Here is an attempt with moonlight. What I had believed to be the only proper light source for a nocturne.
But adding other light sources gives a lot of new opportunities.
Loosely based on a photo I saw in internet.

C&C always welcome

Re: The Spotlight - September 2018 - Nocturnes

Esther, some really nice nocturnes! The northern lights painting seems like it would be very challenging. Since you aren't totally happy with it, I offer a suggestion that you can, of course, ignore. I just wonder if you would be happier if the bottom edge of the "ribbon" was softened more like the top edge. That top edge really gives me the feeling of light diffusely scattered, but perhaps the bottom edge is a bit too hard. Again, I have no idea if this would improve anything, but that is my thought!

Your mountain scene is very lovely! It's cold, but I would mind taking a walk in that moonlit scene!

Don

Thank you Don for your comment and suggestion.
And yes you got a point with your observation, the bottom edge seems a bit to solid. I will try to get a bit more ethereal atmosphere in it.

I also reworked the second nocturne, as I got the feeling that the foreground was not enough connected with the background.
So here is the reworked painting.

Esther, Iím not sure what you did but the second version seems colder. More silent too. I just finished reading some Everest books and this looks like one of the high camps the climbers use. Itís a terrific painting. Good job!

Thank you for your comment JAY.
I mostly reworked the ground around the tents, to adapt it a bit more to the background snow field.
Yes, I also think the photo I saw and on which the painting is loosely based was taken in the Himalaya.
