Re: Weeders' Chatroom!

Hi all,
Sorry I didn't participate for a few weeks now. My DH was in hospital for two weeks and I'm very busy with art routes and such.
Next Friday I'm off to another part of the Netherlands for 10 days. An Art route on an Island. I'm in a large shed, where boats are stalled for winter, with 10 other artists. I'll tell you about it when I get back.
After that we have to prepare for our 40th wedding anniversary, which was cancelled when Willem was in hospital. We decided to give a party (July 8th) after all, 42 days after the fact.
So most likely I'll be back the week after that.

Re: Weeders' Chatroom!

I was just thinking about you today Connie and hoping everything was OK. Hospitals are no fun for everyone and I am glad to hear Willem is back home again.
Good luck with your art route, I hope its a sell out for you.

Re: Weeders' Chatroom!

Good news Connie - just keep Willem well and you both enjoy your belated anniversary (my little sister and her husband celebrated their 40th on 21st May - so quite close to your date!)

Hello everyone else! One of these fine days I'll be able to get back properly into the swing of things too!

Re: Weeders' Chatroom!

I like your spirit Mike!

I have sunflowers to transplant but it's so windy I'm afraid they'll fall over and give up the ghost! ...... some of my taller rose bushes are being bent double!

Re: Weeders' Chatroom!

Glad you are enjoying supervising Mike, your spirit is infectious, much admiration from me.
Until it rained last week (first real rain) i was sure my garden would be sparse, but the miracle and gift of rain actually has given me rows of new seedlings, we have had 1.5 inches of rain (that is a total to date) maybe it will start, still love my summer , even if it is dry. Yard is looking good today

Off to house sit again with my friends alpacas and dogs next week, which means I will be painting

Re: Weeders' Chatroom!

hey all!

i always love the variety of styles every weekend ... good work WDE'ers!

Maureen... sunflowers will be ok. plant them with a stake if you are worried. they will defy the wind on their own in a few weeks.

Bonnie .. so you will be painting alpacas and dogs?

not much to report this week. just my continuing love/hate relationship with watercolor

Re: Weeders' Chatroom!

Thanks Mike - I did exactly that last week -got them planted and staked they're about 24" high ... watered well too and must water again as the weather has been so HOT!.... I now, unusual, but for 3 days it's between around 28C here - too hot for me to be out in the garden. forecast says it'll be back to winter by Wednesday though!

Re: Weeders' Chatroom!

Another triple digit day here and we are not even into July yet!
Congrats Connie on your anniversary and on getting your hubby home (wondered where you were and have missed you).
Mike, no idea you were wheelchair bound. I am so sorry.
Glad you got rain, Bonnie! It makes a huge difference.
Stay cool Maureen!

Re: Weeders' Chatroom!

This was my part of the wall in the big shed during the 9 days Art Route. About 1600 people visited. On the (here still empty) table I had about 50 little paintings, all made for the WDE. I sold 5 of them and my biggest painting: New York, 42nd Street (second from the left). So I'm very pleased

We came home Sunday evening and today I hung 40 paintings, most 32x32", but also 80x32") in a meeting centre. We had our car (a 25 year old Volvo stationwagon) stuffed to the ceiling

Now trying to get back to normal

Re: Weeders' Chatroom!

Hello to my dear friends here. So sorry to have dropped out for awhile. On April 11, we said goodbye to our girl-dog collie Moxie, after having lost her brother last September. Difficult does not describe. We are picking up the pieces and making plans for the future at this point. Volunteering at the shelter on the weekends has turned out to be a God send to me. I'm not even sure how my husband is able to process this one as she was his baby I brought home on our wedding anniversary 14 years ago as a surprise for him. My day job keeps me focused, as we have to keep paying the bills, although I admit, today I just couldn't face it.
Trying to get back to painting and I have a backlog of 3 WDEs to finish and so many I never even showed here that I did finish. I would like to do some small shows this fall, possibly even the ones that are related to the shelter since I have soooo many dog paintings now. All WDEs of course! So today I hope to finish 3 that are sitting there waiting for me.
Connie, Congratulations on your show! Have you ever been to New York City? Glad Willem is back home. Oh yeah, what is normal?
Kay, Yikes! I would have to live in air conditioning there.
Maureen, Good for you getting out in the garden! I try a little at a time to get back into it. Wanting to make a little tribute somehow to Moxie who loved to be out with me in the "new" yard where I made a little flower garden facing the road and has a small sitting area. I am sure you can relate.
Bonnie, We are thinking for my birthday in November we might be ready. And since we both prefer BIG dogs, we might go for a smaller sized "Rough Collie" as they are named (like Lassie). Moxie and Buddy were the largest collies we, and our Vet, have ever seen! Too big for me to handle in another couple of years, for sure.
Hi Mike, Sounds like you are keeping busy - that's good . We still have a cat who will turn 16 in August! I guess she is going to Maine with us to see the grandkids this summer. Easiest, best cat I have ever had and she was the runt of the litter. To be honest, I have never in my entire life been without a cat for more than 2 months. Wow - Just reaslized it was my birthday 16 years ago that I got this one and her sister (the "Chosen" one, now gone some 4-5 years ago).
Well, if I am going to get any painting done, I had better get upstairs. Best wishes to everyone for a great summer.

Re: Weeders' Chatroom!

WOW Barbara, I'm way out of the loop too. Mike, some friends here keep telling me that your government health care is wonderful and we should have it. Maureen, good you are back. Bonnie, I knew about your trip, did manage to pop on and see a few posts. Connie, didn't know about your show but your work is always wonderful... yes, consider a calendar and I'm glad Wilem is home.

We've been dealing with a few issues for the past couple years and art does seem to take a back seat. Two and a half years ago my spouse had knee replacement surgery, he was sorry he did it... his words...."prior to the surgery I was in excruciating pain every once in awhile, now I'm in constant pain, it never lets up." He has also had back issues but bore the pain and took me to France for our 40th anniversary last year. We did have to cut the trip short because of his pain and as soon as we got back he had back surgery, That went well; however, the knee that was replaced was still bothering him. Three opinions later he was convinced it had to be done over. It wasn't done properly and there were so many issues with it that wouldn't ever get better. I wanted to take an ad out in our local paper telling people not to have that doctor even look at them but my husband was nicer. I did ask anyone who was considering having the surgery who their doctor was and if it was the one who did all the damage to my husband I suggested they get another opinion. This April, two years after the first knee replacement, he had it done over and this year it is going much better. Not perfect because there is some permanent damage from the first knee surgery but at least he is not in constant pain.

Another issue I've been dealing with is with siblings. My mother died in 2004 and my sister would not agree to selling the house. She also used any money that was left to maintain the house. She has been living in it so she could sell the other two properties she owns to two of her children... her home to her daughter and her cottage to her son. Finally, two years ago she began paying us rent, a pittance but better than nothing. My brother finally had enough and was going to sue her. Those two were always very close so that was rather stressful but I wasn't going to stop him and I told her so. I had long ago given up on ever getting anything but a few mementos out of my parent's estate. That still isn't totally resolved but my brother found a buyer and we are negotiating... and she is not liking it but realizes that something has to happen. This is lakefront property and I find it humorous that of the three of us, she is the only one who isn't a water person.

With my husband's issues out of the way... or at least close, he improves daily I'm finding a little more time in my studio. Hopefully things will be back to normal by fall.

Re: Weeders' Chatroom!

Barbara, so sorry about your dog.
I've never been to New York. I made it from a WDE photo. First small (sold that one 3 weeks ago) and the big one 48x48" I sold last Saturday.

Helen, Glad your husbands knee is improving and I hope you will still see your sister after this. Because life's short and we need our family.
