Tunnel Violist

9 x 12
Colored Pencil (Polychromos and Prismacolor)
Arches Hot Pressed Watercolor Paper

Well, I have a real lot to say about this drawing.
I played the guitar in the arches of Central Park for years. There was always some competition among we buskers (park and street performers) for the best spots. One day I was in the very best spot and I saw a guy with an instrument case hanging around (a bad sign). But, I was getting tired. We made a deal - I would split, he'd play for an hour, and I'd come back and play an hour, and so on. It worked out so well that we became allies and friends. We even played duets from time to time.

Alright, I'm a blabbermouth - but it was a very beautiful time there in the park, and I miss it very much, now that I'm retired here in Albuquerque. But the trade-off is, now I have the time to paint and play guitar as much as I want, which are, a real lot.

Re: Tunnel Violist

This one has a real painterly quality to the edge work, sharp silhouettes and great sense of vibrant light. Good work Marc.

Re: Tunnel Violist

I really appreciate that, Delo, especially coming from you.

I'd also like to say here, that for this drawing I've used Arches paper and Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils for the first time. I've gotten good enough (or at least experienced enough) to appreciate the quality of these materials. I started with Roseart pencils and sketch paper, and while there's nothing wrong with these materials, it was a complete joy to discover how great the Polys and the Arches are.

Re: Tunnel Violist

Love it. I can see myself sitting on the steps and feeling the sound sweep over me. The acoustics in the tunnel must have made the sound rich and wonderful. Good art materials are like a good violin or guitar, a joy to use and the end product is always more vibrant.

Re: Tunnel Violist

Excellent work. You've really caught the feel of the contrast of the darkness of the tunnel against the blinding brightness of 'outside'. Nice job.

Good sense of movement, appears to be a difficult project, very believable.
