Re: Scavenger Hunt #601 - Sept 2 - Sept 10

I haven't been present, sorry. We had company and are now packing. The sketches and chatter have been fun and interesting. And no, Joan and I were not together AWOL. Evil grin.

Joe, I found the spurtle to be a new word for me. Learn something always here about art and more.

Pine Cone beautiful stuff!

I'll check in when I can. Ciao and Hasta Luego.

Re: Scavenger Hunt #601 - Sept 2 - Sept 10

Thanks everybody.

Joe, I like those old pencils. I have one like the blue new one of yours, I've shortened it and it is now a pocket pencil. I guess you already know it but the piece at the top is a sharpener and at least mine works quite well. Here is a picture of the pencil after sharpening.

Pine Cone, excellent work on the carafe. 9H pencil?, I would scratch the paper with that one.

Jo, hasta pronto.

Joan T, wonderful sketches! I like a lot the wooden spoon, the brush and the corn(if corn is the proper word), but I especially love the landscape. Did you use a white gel pen on the board?

Two quick tiny ones.
5-smaller than my hand (lead sharpener, another one) ink
6-made of fabric (a towel) pencil

Thanks Jo 😀

Joan — Beautiful new set of sketches. That store is amazing and the colors of the flowers gorgeous. Love the countryside in the distance. Your watercolor corn is wonderful - I keep coming back to study it.

------------

Joan, I've been thinking that I wasn't very clear in my comment about your first two images for this event, both of which I loved.

When I mentioned that the first created a slight tension, I was admiring that ability, and result. It's something I occasionally strive for but often fail to achieve. I was enchanted by the idea that your two images worked so well together to bring me into each scene and get me dynamically involved with each.

I hope this clarifies my meaning, and my admiration for both.

Individuo — We cross-posted 🐾 Cool pencil Love how versatile you are - beautifully portrayed gizmo, and lovely towel!

Thanks for your comment and yup, I tried to use the 9H for the outline and ripped the paper badly, first line out of the gate Shows how long I've been away from the non-virtual life, plus this paper was weaker than I expected. (I've used other, stronger, Borden & Riley papers in the past, but this was the first time I tried their Tuppence paper.)

Anyway, I started over fresh, with a new piece, and ended up using the 9H only on its side for the extremely pale middle layer of glazing. Even on its side, I was worried but it worked out okay. That middle swath of glazing is almost invisible now after the necessary downsize for posting, but its there

Thanks Pine Cone.
Yup, that happened to me with a 6H pencil that I bought because the 4H I had wasn't hard enough , but they were of different brands and the step in hardness was much bigger than I expected and scratched the paper. You are brave, I dulled the pencil against a stone in order to use it safely

You have another vote to live in both worlds from now on

Thanks, Jo.

Individuo, yes, I used a white gel pen for the writing on the board. Nice sketch of the sharpener and you showed the softness of the towel well.

Pine Cone - Thanks so much for your kind words! That ear of corn came right out of the field in the background of the painting of the farmstand. Definitely fresh!

Re: Scavenger Hunt #601 - Sept 2 - Sept 10

These are tiny sketches done today during "Tiny Sketches: Big Impact" a workshop I took with Katie Woodward in Bryant Park. One is 2 x 5 1/4 inches and the other is 3 inches x 5 inches. They do fit the hunt.

18 - well used (Bryant Park) - watercolors and ink
19 - larger than me (NYC buildings like the NY Public Library)
20 - well loved (Bryant Park Carousel) - watercolors and ink

individuo, I like your penci and the sharpener, hadn't seen one of those. Nice folds and shading on the towel.

Hi Pine Cone. I like your dedication to learning and practice. I'm sort of a slap it together kinda artist. Fun to see all the different folks and techniques, eh?

Joan, umbrellas ad so much to street scenes, don't they. Nice. Couldn't believe how small those sketches are until I read what you wrote. Wow!

Scatty, hi there. So much fun to see your collection of items. Very well done!! I like the Pizza wheel and umbrella and veggie and.........

We are loading the trailer today and in the final countdown. Beautiful weather still. Hitting the roads and highways tomorrow.

Me too - I just go until I figure maybe it's done or I run out of time, whichever comes first

Kat, always good to see your pretty sketches. Love how you included them all on the same page! What is that red polka dot thingy?

Jo, thank you. Have a safe trip and check in when you can.

Pine Cone, thanks so much!

Re: Scavenger Hunt #601 - Sept 2 - Sept 10

Joan, super watercolour land/street scapes, esp like the red house, and that is one tiny tomato. Cute family on the beach, nice hats. That cheese, I can almost smell it! Love the tiny sketches. ☺️ ...the red spotty thing is a hot water bottle, unusual shape, my daughter uses it around her tummy when she has pain.
EP, great job on the sketches, esp the fabric and zip, 👍🏼
Jo, top job on the fruit in the glass, great transparency.
Joe, cool hatching on the flower, very good sharpener and pencil. Never heard of spurtles before, lovely looking wood.
Individuo, good red peg, super job on the handle, nice work on the teeny lead sharpener, I have one the same. Well done on the charcoal landscape. 🙂
Pine cone, lovely leg, beautiful carafe.😊
