Portraiture Challenge for February and March 2011

After January's great Loomis head-structure exercises, I thought it might be a good -- and fun! -- idea to concentrate on the baby head this month. Also, since it is February and Valentine's Day happens on the 14th, I'm throwing in some cupids, as well as some Old Masters' takes on babies.

At the end -- for those who want some non-baby refs -- I'm including some non-baby refs of a lovely red-haired woman named Nicole who recently posed for our local Portraiture workshop.

So, my babies are my own son and daughter when they were babes, so please excuse the quality of some. I've got a range from newborn up to around I year, with as many different angles as I could find.

Here goes.....

Newborn: 9 hours old (my daughter)

2 weeks old (my son):

3 months old (daughter):

4 months old (daughter):

5-1/2 months old (son):

7 months old (daughter):

Oh, my, Lauren, what a beautiful array of choices. I could take a whole year just doing part of these!

Hey looking good Sandra!!!! Nice feeling and mood you have in it!!! Your off and running! Beat everyone here!!!

Hey Lauren I like the old classical painting you posted called "Temptation" Don't know if I've seen that before. Mary Cassatt stuff is really nice too!

Nice work, Sandra! I love your touch with conte!
It is rather comforting for me to revisit my son and daughter as babes. This one just turned 23 in January! Still a sweetie-pie.
Thanks for getting us started with the babies!

Re: Portraiture Challenge for February 2011

Thanks Lauren for all the babies pictures.

Here is my attempt for colors. I think I should stay with charcoal for a while.
His face is bit shorter than the photo. Well, there is always the next try.

C & C always welcome.

Kim, you did a great job here!
I recognize my son here (well, how he looked about 25 years ago.)

Thanks Lauren;

You are so kind. My application of paint is not smooth. Will keep trying.

Sandra, and Fivepieces, adorable baby drawings from both of you!

Sid, of the group, this was my favorite too! Nice work with the color!
