Kitty looks great in red! I like the second post of her too, Lawrence, the color contrast on it are a lot of fun!

Hi, all!

Great to see things getting going!

Lawrence -- you are having such a great time with a few 'Kitty's on the go already. She was a swap partner of mine a few years back, but I think she is getting a better deal with you this time -- is it 2 or 3 you've done so far? (Not sure if the first 2 are one in WIP)

Well, I'm in now, as Nora (dollardays) and I are swapping portraits. Still arranging to get references to each other.

Thanks for the encouragement, folks.

Lauren, the 2nd one was just my 40 min. quickie--I love painting like that--so with today's that makes four.

qeenbee, that's coming along nicely, great hair. It's not necessary to post the photo.

Re: 2009-The Sixth Annual Portrait Swap Pairings and WIP Thread!!!

Love the intense colour against the cool skin in this last one Lawrence. Your production level makes me feel like a sloth!

qeenbee, this portrait is lovely and soft looking. The hair and eyes stand out.

Yakov and I are paired up and as we're in the same town, we're doing some life studies then moving on from there. I sat for him this morning and he will come out to the farm tomorrow morning to sit for me.

We had exchanged some photos previously and I did a warm up drawing which then turned into a study of skin tones as I'll most likely do his portrait in watercolour. Of course the paper that I did the study on wasn't watercolour paper, so it buckled, but not too seriously.

Once I do some studies from life tomorrow and take some photos I'll know better what direction I want to go in.

queen, you have progressed so much in your painting! I'm really impressed--great work so far.

Lawrence, you never disappoint! There's so much to be said for just getting down and producing a painting every day. Sometimes there IS such a thing of too much preparation, sometimes, you just have to jump in, sink or swim! You swim beautifully

Great watercolor, Jeanette! I love how you used color to set in your values--though it is a bold approach, the result is soft and believable.

I'm still over-thinking my portrait of Roy.

Lawrence - your paintings are fantastic - I like that second one the best though. The black brushstrokes around the figure really make it pop!
Qeenbee - this is marvelous. The hair is amazing!
Jeanette - the watercolor study you have done is so good. It already has incredible character and life.

LG, your pieces are such fun!

Qeenbee, good likeness and excellent hair.

Jeanette, a little finishing and the "study" is a wrap. That is really nice watercolor portrait.

I'm paired with greywolf but he is laid up at the moment with a bad chest infection (started off as swine flu), so we haven't started yet. Say a prayer for him!

Beautiful study of Yakov, Jeanette.

tali, thanks for the kind words.

I agree with you, Claire, I like the 2nd one too. I guess Expressionism gives the most bang for the buck--at least for those of us who admire it.

Thanks for the comment, fookie. Dunno if that's Johnny Depp but it sure looks like Leigh.

"Bigger eyes," sez I to myself I sez, when I woke up this morning. So the eyes are bigger today......but then, so is the whole face. Just a rough freehand sketch, then turned off the monitor and painted from memory.
