Re: 2009-The Sixth Annual Portrait Swap Pairings and WIP Thread!!!
Thanks Lynn, I worked on it a bit more and I'm happier with it now. I think I've taken it as far as I'm able. Everytime I try to take it further I start loosing it again ; )
16x16 Oils

I agree, the stardard of the portraits has been excellent this year. Well done everyone

Re: 2009-The Sixth Annual Portrait Swap Pairings and WIP Thread!!!
Roy, this is so beautiful! (Much more so than the model, I'm afraid ) Thank you so much, I'm really looking forward to seeing it IRL! I love what you've done with the play of warm and cool temperatures, the simplified values, and the distinct facial planes. The soft edges are so flattering--yet don't seem "contrived" in any way. It has all come together beautifully. Perhaps it's just me, but my love for outdoor light really radiates from this painting. Violet/green colour harmony is a particular favorite of mine. Thanks again! It has been so much fun getting to know you and exchanging information.

Thanks Alison, compared to Tali's painting it's looks so feeble, I would love to keep at it, but I know there is more chance of spoiling it rather than improving it. I spoil paintings regularly, I think that's where my expertise lies. It's the only way to learn how far to take them ; )
Tali I'm glad it doesn't look contrived to you, I paint things how I see them, I think you are too modest, I like that though, your beauty shines through. You have a wonderful presence and I hope I've caught it. It's been an absolute pleasure getting to know you and learn from you ; )

Re: 2009-The Sixth Annual Portrait Swap Pairings and WIP Thread!!!
I am so ashamed at how late mine is , but luckily, my partner also had problems; mine was eyesight to begin with, followed by 5 months of preparation and building of my new studio! Both are now resolved to some extent...and I was able to all but finish this...just a few tweaks left to do, especially on the hair!

I'm assuming this painting is crooked because of the way you photographed it. If so, it's a painting I would have found worth it to wait for! Beautiful~!!

Thank you Mimi....this is slightly better...but I may have to resort to placing it on the ground to get it really straight...in which case will have to wait for morning light!
