Thumbs up Portrait Gallery - June-July 2012

What's on your easel (or in your sketchbook) this month?

Show a finished portrait or one in any stage of progress (WIP = Work in Progress). This thread is for showcasing your work; others will only critique your work if you request it.

So please show us what you've been up to this month. We'd love to see it.

If you welcome Comments and/or Critique, let us know when you post (ie: "Cs & Cs welcome")

Even if you have already shown it in the main portraiture forum, you are invited to showcase it in this thread, also, as this thread will remain in the Library Archives. (Portrait Swap WIP shots most welcome, too! Also Self-portraits... anything portrait)

And be sure to check out previous Portrait Galleries in the Archives. Lots of great work in there!

So... let's get those portraits set up in the gallery....

...Nice to see the portraiture forum back
These are 2 that I've been working on May/June....Got rid of the jazzy background on the 1st one...she was really difficult to do as there was no contrast on the pale face.

Wow! Beautiful breathtaking work on both portraits! The fabric and the hair on the second....well, just excellent. A visual feast!

Re: Portrait Gallery - June 2012

Hi,
I'm Shower . Brand new here at WC. I've been drawing with pencil and charcoal for a little over a year now and found I enjoy portraiture. I love drawing people and seeing a drawing come to life once I've captured the essence of the person. I am currently participating in the spotlight series in the soft pastel forum and learning a tremendous amount from Don and the rest of the participants. Can't say enough about it and the rest of WC. Glad to be here.

Here is my first portrait in pastels. I completed this for the June Spotlight on edges.

Thanx for looking and C&C always welcome,
Shower

Larubia, I loved your background squiggles. What made you get rid of them?

Re: Portrait Gallery - June 2012

Shower, I have a similar experience with a portrait. As a new portrait artist I find myself surprised when the work acquires that life of its own ... and I even look at it and wonder 'where did that come from?' ... of course it could be alzheimers!

Re: Portrait Gallery - June 2012

And now I will try a post of a recent piece. I am very grateful I can get C&C here and am open to any thoughts you might have. This is my second experiment with an oil portrait ... and I am so deep into learning that it is almost paralyzing. I listened in on a webinar where an artist was painting and was asked, "aren't you afraid of making a mistake?" and fortunately for me she said every stroke I make is a mistake, and I go from there. Greetings to everyone.

Re: Portrait Gallery - June 2012

Great gallery going here this month!

Annemarie -- Wow, Wow, and Wow! Your portraits are so special, and your wonderful tribe of strong and independent women are amazing!

Shower - your gentle portrait reminds me of another era -- perhaps it's the palette and touch. Lovely!

IsaMar -- a very sweet little girl; nicely done!

Reinhart -- beautifully rendered!

Gardy -- Welcome! Your portrait has a great expression. Love the eyes!

At the weekly Wed. morning portrait studio I attend, we had the same model for the past 4 weeks. The first two weeks I worked on a drawing. Here it is first after week 1; again after week 2:

Last week I started an oil of the same pose & worked on it again this week. Here is where it is now. I'll have to finish it from photo references.

Re: Portrait Gallery - June 2012

Hello,

I'm new to this website but I wanted to display some of my work. Here is a drawing from my sketchbook of my 2year old daughter. I've recently had a baby and can't do much more than draw. I'm planning to convert this into a painting at some point. Please feel free to comment.
