Guadalpupe River and Marshes at Alviso

This is my latest. Sennelier softs on 12x9" Pastelmat. A little license taken here with composition and color. I'm finding that I do like the Sennelier half sticks a lot, though as the reviewers note, they are variable in their degree of hardness. This was my first on Pastelmat, which is a very nice surface; takes lots of layers and wet underpainting well, lovely colors, and stiffer than paper.

FWIW, the photo of the picture is not a good one, so not exactly representative. Original is brighter and more colorful. (For some reason my camera emphasizes strokes in a way that is not accurate to the painting, and there is some color distortion that I cannot fully edit out with software.)

I like the your lively color choices, as they add interest. You are not alone in having issues photographing pastels. I must have to do with the way the light hits the texture of the paper.

This is very nice, I love your textures and varied colors. I photograph my pastels in direct sunlight and have to do very little correction with the computer.

Indeed very nice with a good color combination.
I also know the trouble with taking photos from pastels. My camera seems to hate dark colors and tries to eliminate them. I always have to rework on the colors to get them similar to the original painting again. It never happens with watercolor paintings.

Thanks for all the compliments. I enjoy looking at this work and am struggling with framing it properly.

In fact, every one of the soft pastels I'm doing brings a lot of pleasure - such wonderful color and saturation in pastels. I think I'm going to try to learn from using this medium how to better use paint from the tube in my other media. Something about the way pastels work that is so vibrant.

Thanks to all of you for your encouragement.
