Morningside Bagels

24x20" on canvas; I welcome your comments/critiques. This is a piece for the foyer of my wife's bagel shop. -Patrick

Well, I really LIKE this painting. Your flowers, and their background is absolutely incredible!

However, I imagine that some more steeped in composition than in realistic execution are likely to point out that you have two competing centers of focus--the flowers, and the bagel/cup.

If I had a bagel shop, I'd surely want this painting hanging on my wall!

Re: Morningside Bagels

I think the composition is lovely, my eye goes from the bagel to the wonderful ridges along the vase up to the flowers, back to the bagel again. I really like your color choices. However I had a hard time figuring out what that donut shaped thing was. Doesn't quite read as a bagel. Perhaps the inside of the bagel, the bitten part, shouldbe darker. And more variety in values and temp in the cream cheese, right now it looks like cotton.

Lovely.
I agree with Allison regarding the interior of the bagel, but maybe the bagels you get are different from the ones I get.
The flowers are wonderful.
