Re: Welcome to What's On Your Easel......May 2018

First is done from imagination utilizing reference for poses and some details here or there. It is a color comp for a bigger version of this painting that I am going to do digitally first, then again in oils much larger than this one.

The second is done from memory of a video that I watched a few weeks ago. I don't use that artist's approach, but I did like the composition so I just copied it from memory as best I could remember. Probably could go look up the video and actually directly reference it, but meh, I think the idea is more important. Once again, started on top of an "abstract" painting (what I scraped all my left over paint onto when I was done with the last palette).

Impressive and complex composition, especially coming from imagination. Shows you have a rich vocabulary of painting experience.
Secondly, while scraping and tossing left over paint, had the thought, why not smear it on a blank surface and see what happens. After seeing your result here, I’m committed. No more tossing!

Thanks Boogiechile! I am definitely pulling a lot of information from references in spite of establishing all the placement of the market stalls and all. It is going to take ages to get everything figured out where I want it.

Okay, also on my easel though:

Back to my owl, glazed the owl and retouched the whites on the feathers.

Re: Welcome to What's On Your Easel......May 2018

Busy night last night, had time to put a little work on everything on almost everything on my easel. Pretty sure the owl above is done now, just going to glue it down to a panel and trim off the excess.

So here's all I did a bit of work on last night:

Feeling confident about a lot of these, they feel good, the portrait is just a very rough block in to get some paint on the surface that will allow me to build up. The surface for it is a canvas paper that has a very canvas looking texture, but it is a bit more slick than my usual surface so my approach is going to be a bit different than I might use otherwise.

Marcia , you've solved that depth problem expertly. Now it really feels like one could walked right into it. Brilliant work!

Think these are nearing completion. Might add an unifying glaze, not really sure at this stage.

Hi Anth, good to see you back! Nice rims!

Very nice work, both of you. Anthony, I really love the one on the right, it really tells a story.

I haven't signed it yet, but I think it is done. Not much change from my previous post, Just a lot of subtle ones.
