The following paintings were on display at the local community college’s cultural center. The paintings are beautifully characterized by defined brushwork using sharp colors and shades of oils and acrylics on the velvet-velveteen background. The art is often associated with the rasquache aesthetic but is now regarded as part of a rich Latino artistic and cultural tradition marked by its creativity and inventiveness.

Here are a few that were on display.

    Yosemite Sam

    The Duke

    Poncho Villa

    The Bull and the Matador

Beauriful! I think the matador picture is my favorite.

I can see how skillfully these paintings on velvet are done. Without knowing who he is, my vote goes to the first.
