This is an ore train en route to the Port Pirie smelter. The engine is a narrow gauge (3’6″) Garratt. Sadly, these engines were put out to grass after only 17 years.

You are right about the effect of low level view, Mike; I usually these days try to get below the level of the rails when planning a locomotive picture.
