Evening tide

This was painted in acrylic on canvas (40cm x 60 cm). I tried to get the atmosphere of a rough windy evening and to balance the extreme lights of the sky and reflections with very dark water. I enjoyed working loosely on the sea and forming the waves with loose strokes. The sky was a bit more frustrating as acrylics don't blend easily but I worked with layers until I was satisfied. C&C welcome.

Re: Evening tide

Lovely painting. I don’t get a sense of a 'windy evening' though.

Re: Evening tide

Peaceful, the light on the water and the water looks great! Well done. The upper left corner of the sky could use the same color as the left maybe.

Re: Evening tide

I'm more of an abstract girl but the sun glinting off the water and the water itself is just gorgeous. I agree with a previous poster that maybe bringing more of the blue from the upper left to the the right with some lighter clouds peeking through would bring more harmony to the composition. But overall so lovely and truly does evoke a feeling of serenity. Like one of those perfect moments.

Re: Evening tide

Thanks for your comments. The left side certainly has the light and the right side fades to a bleak dark distance out to sea. I wanted the sun line to be of centre so this is one reason. I am also more satisfied with the sea than the sky. if I am honest I reached a stage where my kids saw a huge dragon in the sky and there I left it !!
